Come on, give me some credit here. How many of you were sure that there was no way I was going to come up with an X name?
Duma Key is one of my favorite of the recent offerings from King. Actually, after taking a long break from his writing, this was one of the books that really started to get me back on board as a fan. I thought it was a real throwback to his earlier dark, supernatural stuff. I loved it.
So as you have probably guessed, Xander Kamen is one of the central characters in Duma Key. He doesn’t have much time in the story but he does have a big impact on events. The main character, Edgar Freemantle, suffers from a serious car accident that ends with him losing his arm. Xander Kamen is Edgar’s psychologist and he is the one who makes the suggestion of the use of a doll to help work out anger issues. His advice is also a big part of why Edgar ends up moving to Duma Key. I don’t want to reveal anything about the book, but this all ends up being very significant for how the story eventually develops. Sometimes the people who are put into your lives at just the right moment can have a profound impact.
So sayeth the King.
