The opening scene of the film
Chicago, with Catherine Zeta-Jones belting out "All That Jazz." Just a great, brassy scene. I remember seeing the film in a packed theater in Australia with my friends Sarah and Jenn. At the time I was in love with the film. Now, I like it, but over the years it has lessened its hold on my heart. For my money,
Cabaret is still the best of the film musicals. Still, Zeta-Jones was/is wonderful in
Chicago. (Though I remember being miffed that Robert Altman's version, starring Goldie Hawn and Madonna, never got off the ground. But Hawn was too old for the part of Roxie.)
Anyway, now I'm going to be singing "All That Jazz" for the rest of the day. (For anyone interested, Ute Lemper does a great version of that song as well.)
