Display Category Hierarchy in a Widget in WordPress

One of our members at OSTraining was having trouble displaying Easy Digital Downloads' categories in a hierarchy. She wanted them displayed in her side menu, but could only get the top level categories.

We created this tutorial for her and it can be used as a general solution for any categories in WordPress.
