Shiny and New!!

I have some VERY exciting news today!! First of all I'm thrilled to tell you that NIGHTSHADE is now an international best seller!!! (Thank you, France!)

Coming on the heels of that announcement I'm psyched to share yet more fabulous news:

NIGHTSHADE will be available in paperback this June AND features a new cover!

Penguin decided to try out a fresh take on NIGHTSHADE for the paperback release and I absolutely love it. I also loved the original cover, but I think the new cover truly embodies the novel and depicts Calla so perfectly. When I was first mulling over NIGHTSHADE I came across a poem by Margaret Atwood (one of my favorite authors)* and was struck by its first stanza:

Not you I fear, but that other

She who can walk through flesh

Queen of the two dimensions

These lines reflected the essence of Calla and were the inspiration for this new cover. I love it!

The response to the new NIGHTSHADE cover as it was previewed was so positive that Penguin has decided to makeover the series with this new theme. Squee!!! Thus I'm also able to share....

NEW WOLFSBANE COVER!!

I am enthralled by how powerful Calla is in this image and the way she resembles a wolf silhouetted by the moon is exquisite. Calla would love this cover (as would Ren and Shay *cough*).

Thanks to all the talent at Penguin for giving my books such wonderful covers!!! I can't wait to see them on the books!!

The poem is in this collection by Margaret Atwood.

TheLoupGaroux I better go get the original version while I still can! (These are lovely as well, but the original was gorgeous)

message 2: by Lore (new)

Lore Wow! so cool, I won't get these covers over here, but I adore them anyway. My copy was the UK paperback one, and I love it(it often tried to distract me from the book..).

message 3: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Cremer Thanks guys! I love both the cover designs so I'm a happy as a clam :)

message 4: by Tash (new)

Tash The new covers are pretty. But I have 'Nightshade' in hardback (which I love) and I don't think it matches with the new cover of 'Wolfsbane'. Hmmm. I'll just have to get a copy of 'Wolfsbane' and see. =)

message 5: by heather (new)

heather Yeah I really like the Wolfsbane cover a lot more, then the one that was out :] really pret

Ellen does this mean the original wolfsbane cover that was released won't be published at all? or is this wolfsbane just for the paperback version? they're both beautiful btw - im just a bit OCD about matching covers :P xo

kayla** Will the original Wolfsbane cover still be available?
I absolutely adored it... and although the new ones are ok, I already have Nightshade, and the original covers carry a similar theme- which I prefer=)

I noticed that the original cover is now missing off of goodreads... please still tell me that it is available:(

I read Andrea's blog and she stated that the original cover of Wolfsbane will not be released anymore =(

kayla** NO! why?
I am actually really upset right now...
To be honest the originals were way prettier than these new ones. No, no, no.

Are the original covers going to be available anywhere other than ARCs???
Please, I think these are too adult pnr :(

message 11: by Grace (new)

Grace I like the originals better as well, as Ellen said, I'm very OCD about things like this as well, especially when it comes to the appearance of my book shelf. :( Hopefully they will still release Wolfsbane in the old version. Wish I had gotten an ARC.

Chelle (crazytrinket) The new cover is pretty but I still love the original cover of wolfsbane... Hoping they will still release the first one. The new one won't match my nightshade =(

__blank LOL these covers are so amazing & pretty, & i can't wait until i get to read *wolfsbane* I love the new covers, but i like the old Night Shade cover better, but *wolfsbane's* cover looks aeusome.

message 14: by Angie (last edited Mar 11, 2011 07:16PM) (new)

Angie Aww.. I like the originals so much better! But I don't mind either way since I'll probably be buying the Kindle version of Wolfsbane. These are gorgeous too. But I was just a huge fan of how colorful the old ones were. :D

I actually picked up Nightshade BECAUSE the cover just was entrancing (and my favorite color). And I thought the original Wolfsbane was just as eye catching!

message 15: by __blank (new)

__blank me too;(

I, unfortunately, don't like the new cover. I prefer the other cover a lot more. The main reason why i picked up Nightshade in the first place was because of the beautiful original cover and i was ecstatic when wolfsbane was going to follow that trend.

Glad you are happy with them though, just preferred wolfsbane's original cover.

message 17: by Haley (new)

Haley I for one really love the new Nightshade cover, Calla looks EXACTLY the same as she does in my head while I'm reading as she does on this new cover, the old nightshade cover didn't remind me anything of the way calla looks (besides looking intimidating!) Calla doesn't wear that much makeup, yet the original cover girl has a lot of makeup on. so there for the new cover for nightshade is PERFECT, I seriously love the new cover so much..I am probably going to buy another copy of nightshade in paperback just so I have that cover(:

BUT, I must admit I'am not as big of a fan about the new Wolfsbane cover...

message 18: by Karthi (new)

Karthi I liked the Nightshade cover, it reminds me of how Calla looked in my head when I was reading the book. Can't wait for Wolfsbane!!!
Congrats on making it an International Best Seller!!!
:D

Andrea Cremer Thanks for the comments you guys :)

message 20: by Mackenzie (last edited Mar 12, 2011 01:46PM) (new)

Mackenzie i have to agree with everyone. the new covers are really really pretty, i love them.

But

It's kinda late to change the cover. Now i prefer a hardcover (it stands up better against the other stuff in my backpack) but I'm also OCD on the cover-matching thing as well. and i don't really want to buy the new one in paper back just to match the new HARDOVER version of Wolfsbane.......so..yeah you can kinda say i'm not pleased with the publisher. it's too bad authors can't have more say in what happens to their books.
(btw i do agree that the new cover suits Calla's bad-ass character more.)

Bianca Shelley wrote: "The new cover is pretty but I still love the original cover of wolfsbane... Hoping they will still release the first one. The new one won't match my nightshade =("

Neither and I HATE that. I have like OCD when it comes to my books matching.

message 22: by Cory (last edited Mar 13, 2011 03:12PM) (new)

Cory Kaaukai I'm kind of broken hearted that my covers won't match. But I think this is what the publishers wanted. They knew the OCD readers will force themselves to buy the new cover of Nightshade to match Wolfsbane.

Oh well. I love this story; the cover can't change that.

message 23: by Rhyme (new)

Rhyme No. Broken Hearted. It IS too late to change covers, and I'm not even sure what Calla's doing on the cover of wolfsbane.... D;

message 24: by Mackenzie (new)

Mackenzie it's only one publisher, Penguin Group. PG owns like 15 other publishing groups. i've had this with one other series (Eon: Dragoneye Reborn) and the hardcover for Eon, doesn't match it's paper back nor it's hardback sequel Eona: the last Dragoneye. it's quite infuriating.
