“Anonymous Donor” to appear in Alaska Quarterly Review!
I’m very excited to say that my newest short story, “Anonymous Donor,” will appear in a forthcoming issue of Alaska Quarterly Review. I’ve admired AQR for years, so it’s thrilling to have one of my stories find a home with them. Colleen, I teach ENG102 (Sophomore English Comp) at a local college and decided to use your O.Henry story "Good Faith" as the subject of our literary critical theory block, in part because I was tired of the students taking the easy path by jumping on SparkNotes, Shmoop, etc. to find out what they should think about literature instead of thinking for themselves. Your story is great. It sparked good conversations about feminism, culturalism, new historicism, psychoanalytics, and Marxism; and the class's attempts at interpretation of the last line of the story were wonderful. I know the story is now a couple of years old, but I still want to thank you and congratulate you on a terrific short story.

Connie-- Thank you so much for this note. It's reader comments like these, no matter how old a story is, that writers live for. I'm so glad "Good Faith" served as a good lens for studying literary critical theory. As a teacher and almost-PhD myself, I know the difficulty of teaching critical theory to undergrads, and so I appreciate this compliment all the more.
