In Others’ Words: Entertaining Hope
Are you entertaining hope?
Indulge me for a minute while I play with that word “entertain.”
Have you invited “great hopes” (plural) into your life? Anticipated the arrival of great hopes? Thrown the door wide open and embraced great hopes telling them, “I’m so glad you’re here! I’ve been waiting for you!”
Or have you told “great hopes” they’re not welcome in your life? Is there a “Great Hopes Not Welcome” sign posted by your front door? When hope comes knocking, do you keep the door shut and the lights out?
I’ll admit there are days when I don’t treat hope well. I ignore it, while I open the door wide to doubt. Or fear. Or woe is me. To be honest, something happened yesterday that was a bit of an emotional sucker punch. I could have gotten dragged under by discouragement and lost sight of who I was and abandoned something I’d put a lot of hard work and hope in …
… but I would have been listening to someone else’s opinion of me. Opinions come and go. Sometimes they’re favorable. Sometimes they’re not. It all depends on who’s doing the talking, right? Listen to the people who know you best.
If you’re entertaining hopes of any kind — and I pray you are — you’re inviting other people to hope and dream with you. There will always be people who just aren’t going to get it. To be honest, some people won’t like your dream at all.
So be it.
Keep dreaming. Dream bigger. Hope bigger.
In Your Words: What great hopes are you entertaining today? When your hopes get trampled on, who helps you dust them off and keep dreaming?
