Sakura Shells

you might think they’re petalsof sakura tossed in the wind over waves, then washed ashore and sprinkled along the tidal line
but they are shells the palepink of sakura blossomstiny as fingernails, so fragilethey crack with dull pressure
and break into miniature shardswhen tucked into a backpackor jeans pocket or even wrappedwith care in Cora’s handkerchief
it is an actual miracle to get a handfulof whole sakura shells home, rinsedof sand and transferred to a dish to dry and add to Cora’s collection
