1. long and curly when she first met John 

2. and when they went on their first date

3. she trimmed it during six months of bristly kisses (but kept the curls)

4. then her fiancee’s curly headed bro came back to town and she put her curlers away

5. (till the wedding, little bit of curl for the wedding)

6. then shit went down and she went straight.

Yeah, I think the longer hair is from flashbacks. God, I hope so. I’d love to see what Mary was doing off camera during S4!
