I was raised by a woman who didn’t pull any punches when
my homework was substandard. I suppose I get a little bit of my
straight-forwardness from her. She still reads most of my books. She has no
problem telling me when something just doesn’t work, or even when she
absolutely hates a book. (I don’t go that far, after all, I’m not your mother.)
