You recently mentioned Dave Sims' Cerebus ? Can you point out what specifically you recommend? My immense respect for you and your tastes tells me I should read Cerebus, but I'm not very familiar.

Sim did some really amazing comics in the past and has always been a fantastic cartoonist and writer. (his lettering is also amazing) but his more recent views on “

The Male Light and the Female Void
“  make it harder to back him. 

 the modern Sim’s views and work seem so different to me than my idea of him in the 80′s. 

If you feel like digging in, I think Cerebus gets really good with Church and State and for me peaks around
