Garland of Straw (R&C #2) is on Countdown from Friday 15th – and I’m hoping Amazon doesn’t screw it up this time. Meanwhile, Lords of Misrule (R&C #4) is available for pre-order.
The good-looking fellow on the cover of Garland is Sir William Compton, a younger son of the Earl of Northampton. For a gentleman most folk have never heard of, his name crops up surprisingly often; often enough for him to have made an appearance in four of my books.
At the age of 19, he was Governor of Banbury Castle during the Great Siege of 1644 – A Splendid Defiance and The Black Madonna. He fought in the Kent and Essex risings of second Civil War and was at the siege of Colchester – Garland of Straw. And he’s made a guest appearance in Lords of Misrule in his role as one of the founder members of the Sealed Knot. Busy gentleman – and quite an old friend of mine.
