Valhalla is a fucking awesome book and you should read it
I just finished reading Valhalla by Ari Bach (or as autocorrect wants to call him, Air Back), and I can definitely say that it’s the most interesting dystopian sci-fi action story I’ve read in a very long time!
I had this book for about a year and didn’t get past the first couple chapters because A) I wasn’t too invested in it, and B) I’m a lazy fuck. But I gave it another shot, and I was able to become completely engrossed in the story.
First of all, I love the characters. I don’t really think of myself as an overly intelligent person, so I related to Violet in that regard. But I don’t think I’m the type to kill tons of people and happily flaunt their blood and guts on my uniform (is that a spoiler?). But that’s just me… Anyway, Varg is my favorite because the world needs more people who have healthy attitudes towards sex. Also, confidence is sexy as fuck. He better not fucking die.
I’m overly empathetic and prone to “feels”, and this book totally provided plenty of them. In a world that’s so cold and fucked up, I desperately wanted the potential relationship to become an actual one. But life doesn’t work that way, so I had to suck it up and instead watch one of my favorite characters go through fucking hell for the greater good. It was awesome. (And I don’t mean that sarcastically. I was devastated, but kept reading because the book was so enjoyable)
The action was great, the plot didn’t progress too slowly, and Ari Bach created an interesting world full of so many small things that you just want to learn more about. I want the entire history of the fictional world he created in a separate book, along with more detailed descriptions of some of the technology that he introduces. It wouldn’t be boring at all either, because the books have a great sense of humor that would undoubtedly carry through to a more educational kind of book.
I could go on and on about this book’s awesomeness (yay for LGTB+ characters!), but I’d never stop. I look forward to getting my heart completely obliterated by the next two books! :D
