30-day writing challenge

One of the writing sites I follow on Facebook posted this challenge and I thought, you know I might be able to keep up with this. Of course, I’m already a day late for this - but I am going to attempt to do make sure that doesn’t happen again. Fingers crossed.

Topic 1: Five problems with social media.

As much as I love social media, it does indeed have some drawbacks to it. Since I pulled this challenge from Facebook I am going to use it as my answer to my first problem.

1. People wanted to be my friend only because we went to the same high school. I see the fun in reliving the good ole days and wanting to reminisce, but I struggle when I get friend requests from people that I don’t remember or people that I was never friends with. Why would I want to be friends with you? We have absolutely nothing in common. What’s worst is that there have been people who have friended me because they are also friends with my brother and when I asked him who they are - he can barely tell me. Facebook is not a popularity contest; or at least not for me.

2. People feel the need to bully others. As someone who did get occasionally bullied in school, I find it even more horrible that people feel the need to do it online and many times do it anonymously. Bullying is never okay! We need to stop it where ever and when ever it happens.

3. Stop posting every mundane thing you do! I love to see people’s pictures from vacations or from interesting events they are attending. I also love to see and read about fun projects they might be working on. What drives me nuts is are posts or tweets like “I just did laundry” or “I am driving to work”. Okay? Was there something funny or scary about doing the laundry or the drive to work? There needs to be something else there.

4. Posting the same selfie every day! I am a fan of the selfie. It can be fun and goofy to document some great times. However, if you are going to take the same selfie pose, in the same spot every single day. At least do something different! I don’t need to see you doing the same duck lips and / or sexy pose in your hallway every day.

5. Forwarding stories or memes that say post this or your a racists, or un-American, or a horrible person. Really? If I don’t post the picture of an American flag I am anti-America? Or if I don’t re-post and type amen after I am a horrible person? Grow up. I have far more important things to do each day and there are far more important ways to know my political, religious, or my values.

So those are my five problems with social media!
