The passing of senior editor Ellen Seligman.
From Iden Ford (Maureen’s husband and manager)
“It is with profound sadness that Maureen and I mourn the passing of Ellen Seligman today.
Ellen was singlehandedly responsible for bringing Maureen over to McClelland Stewart publishers, now part of Penguin Randomhouse, many years ago.
We met at a Harbourfront Reading series event and she was sitting behind me. I introduced myself to her and told her that I was Maureen’s husband. At the time. Maureen was with another publisher. Ellen exclaimed very clearly that she wanted Maureen at M and S. It was that day and that meeting that convinced me we should have Maureen with a Canadian publisher. We never regretted the decision and Ellen was always so generous with her time when it came to dealing with any issues I had… Thanks to Dinah Forbes and Lara Hinchberger for their hard work over the years on Maureen’s books and keeping her onside with M and S. There will never be another Ellen Seligman, she was an extraordinary person. Link to the press release to read the list of her achievements, and you will see what I mean. Ellen, we will miss you so much,,,”
love from Iden and Maureen.
