What Would You Like Me to Talk About?

So, showing just how inept I am at promoting my own books, I've only recently realized I have 1600 Goodreads followers. First off, THANK YOU. I'm delighted folks on Goodreads are interested in my work. The only thing I've ever wanted as a writer is to write deeply emotional love stories that speak to people's hearts and souls. Hence my nifty new tagline: BDSM Romance for the Heart & Soul. Apparently that's known as branding myself. Who knew it was a marketing term? I always thought it meant something different (grin). Strike branding, freeze branding, electric branding...

I've never been a hugely chatty kind of person, unless you count nervous babbling in social situations. My books are FAR more interesting than me, and who needs one more idiot blathering in your inbox? So, on that note, I'm keeping my first post short and sweet. Actually I hope to do that with most of them, but I want to kick off my blog with a question for you. Based on what you know about me and my books (or don't know!) what would YOU find interesting for me to talk about?

Would you like me to trash talk about my characters? After all, I'm not afraid of them, even the scariest Dom/mes. They can't do anything worse to me than they did during the editing process on my books. The Inquisition couldn't come up with tortures as horrifying as four editing rounds on 150,000 words.

Seriously, this is an open invitation. As long as this blog is active, I'll take your suggestions at any time and turn them into blog topics. If you have a sadistic side, you can make it really challenging: "Joey, I'd like you to compare the conflict between your newest hero and heroine with the Middle East peace problem and project the odds on which one will be resolved first." Probably the Middle East thing, because THEY don't have to go through four edit rounds on 150k words...

If no one suggests anything, I will come up with my own topics, and I'm not sure anyone wants that, because my characters and stories are the most colorful thing about me. My idea of fun and excitement is a nap with the cat...

Thanks again, and look forward to your ideas! I'm assuming you can comment in some way at my blog, but if you're shy, you can also email me at storywitch@storywitch.com.

Jaycee Joey, one of the many things I love about your series is how you intertwine them so...believably, even though some are paranormal and some are contemporary.

So the question I have is: How did the idea first come to you, and why do only certain characters tell you and the Muse that they need this connection?

Would/could such an inspiration be the genesis of a new series?

Ok, that was two questions, sorry!

Thanks,
Jaycee

Joey Hill Jaycee, two questions are more than fine. You've given me 1-2 ideas for blog posts! My goal is to do a short post, addressing questions/requests like these, once a week, unless you guys tell me that's too often. I look forward to answering these! Since you're the first to post a request, your questions will be up first, probably next Tuesday or Wednesday.

Ghosthunter I'm gonna follow right behind Jaycee and ask a question because I've wondered for some time, how writers do it. My question is simple but I think a little broad, so if you feel you want narrow it down to one thing, go for it.

How do you build your world? Especially when the world is combined to the real world?

Ghosthunter very good question! I'm going to basically work my way down the comments that are left here, so next week's blog post will be Jaycee's question, the following week yours, etc (beaming). Thank you for offering a topic that interests you!

Sabine One of my favorite series is KOTBR. I love all the couples, but I'm a bit obsessed with Ben & Marcie! Any tidbits, trash talking or anything you wanna add about any or all the characters would be a dream come true!

Betty, I'll add that to the list (lol). Have you read the two free novellas about the KBR guys? One was The Proper Punishment (Ben, Peter and Dana's threesome she mentions in Afterlife) and the other is Retribution (a prequel about Celeste and Ben before they meet their ultimate significant others). If you haven't read those, you can find them at the JWH Connection fan forum in multiple download formats! Here's the access info - www.storywitch.com/community.

Sabine Thank you! I'll go check those out!

Sandra Hi Joey.
My question is kind of mundane but I've always wondered how and when writers really knew they had the talent to write a book? In your case, best selling books.
Was it an instant inspiration at some point in your life?
Or something you always felt in your bones, so to speak?
Is a talent for writing an innate gift?

I would love to be an artist of worth, but I knew that would never happen beginning when I received an "Unsatisfactory" mark for the year when I was in first grade art!!! LOL.

Julia Hi Joey,

I enjoy and have read all your paranormal books. Love them. I go to your website and have conversed with you on your Facebook page. I think it's great when an author will respond.

Here's something I've been wondering for quite awhile. How do you come up with the names of your characters?

Sandra, not mundane at all! That's actually one of those questions that have no wrong answers, and as for the "unsatisfactory", I'd just have to say that remember Einstein basically almost flunked out of school and was considered slow by some of his teachers (wink). You guys are giving me great topics. I'll probably combine some into the same post, when the answer isn't lengthy (grin) so you don't have to wait so long to find out the answer to your great question.

Julia, I love talking to readers. I can't imagine NOT responding to someone who has either read my work or is thinking about reading my work (lol). I'm grateful for either state of being! Look forward to answering your question in my future blog posts, and thanks for giving me ideas...

Raggs Joey we corresponded for quite awhile on your website blog, and through e-mail for a time (a few years ago before you got so incredibly busy, lol) I find your mind fascinating, and my question/topic is - is there one of your characters who contains more of "yourself" than others? Is more autobiographic, in other words, with your reactions, etc?

Raggs, it's nice that SOMEONE remembers when I wasn't busy all the time, since I can't remember when that was, lol. It's a pleasure to hear your "voice" and thanks so much for the topic suggestion. That's a great question that has quite a few legs. Look forward to answering that one! Hope you've been doing well.

Tessciela, this is a great topic! I'll add it to my post list. I have one coming up about the Nature of Desire series, but yours will come the week after it. :>
