First Day of Spring
On the first day of spring I look back at all I’ve achieved in the winter–and catch my breath.
It doesn’t seem like much, but finishing a draft and getting beta started is something to be proud of. Judging by the feedback I’ve gotten, Serenade isn’t as bad as I’d feared; a common complaint is that it’s rather short, something I can fix when I expand on a few plot points.
Since I know better, this time I’m not setting a book release date; instead, I’ve given myself a deadline for when I want the manuscript to be done. (My 12/13/14 release date miscalculation taught me a lesson I’m not likely to forget.)
In the weeks since finishing with Serenade, I rediscovered the joy of reading. My TBR list is getting thinner for once (though it still towers, I assure you.) Because of some new plot bunnies, I’ve been trying to read more high fantasy–for research! I will keep you updated on these projects!
I want to fill myself with words before I get to the post-beta edits; that way I will be able to see my own improvement. It feels good to be a reader again, checking off titles on Goodreads and completing series (for example, I have the three Dorothy Must Die books and it is a lovely feeling. Aren’t they pretty?)
Finally, the poetry. Without a novel to obsess over, I still manage to tell stories in other ways: Poetry and flash fiction. If you want to read these, follow my Instagram @musehollow (though I will be posting a few of them on here, as well–a few are so good I can’t believe I wrote them!)
What is musehollow, you might ask? Well, I’m not quite sure, but it had a nice ring to it and seems to suit me. If you’ve read my books, you know they’re about Muses and where pure ideas come from. I suppose it’s a place I want to be, and probably the place I’m writing about by accident. Perhaps as spring brings forth flowers and other beautiful things I will be able to elaborate more.
I hope your winter was tolerable and that spring treats you even better! Check back for more updates from musehollow (or more rants from me.)
