One of the reasons I love reading about paranormal creatures so much is because I love seeing all the different versions and takes on them that authors come up with! Of course everyone has their ideal version, especially if it's their favorite creature, but it's unfortunate that this person couldn't accept your ideas. I imagine that's one of the perils of being a writer though---not everyone will accept what you write, but you just have to do what you said and stay true to yourself and the story.

I love seeing the different ways people interpret say, a vampire, an incubus, a superhero, a demon - it's always so fascinating, even if I have my personal preferences that I love.
It is a peril, yes, that no matter what you do there will always be someone who doesn't like it, whether your writing style, your story choices, what have you, it's just about coming to terms with that and making sure you're always improving so that the good outweigh the bad comments, and so you can let negative reviews either be helpful if they bring up important points or roll right off of you if it's simply a matter of opinion.
