Alicia Keys talks about the novel: SUGAR by Bernice L. McFadden

So five years ago today I received an email from a journalist who wanted me to know that eight years earlier he'd been a videographer at some event featuring Alicia Keys and when she was asked what her favorite book was, she replied: SUGAR by Bernice L. McFadden. Now, it didn't mean anything to him then, but he was going through these old videos and on teh replay, he got curious - googled me - found my email address and asked if I'd like a copy of the clip. Of course I did - but my immediate question was: What's it gonna cost me? The man - sorry I can't remember his name - told me it wouldn't cost me a thing. He added that he hoped the clip would help sell some books. I believe it has.

Anino As a Library Associate working within a major library system, I often recommend this book, because it's so well written. Hopefully, someone will do it justice by developing it into a cinematic masterpiece.

Thank you very much! I hope to one day see it on the big screen as well!

Honestly, I don't think I'd want to see it on screen. I feel so possessive of those characters, no one could perform it like I see it in my head...I envision screaming at the casting going NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! THAT'S WRONG!!!

I guess I should correct myself to say, I don't want it filmed unless I can cast it myself...LOL!!

F. Glenn Sugar was the first McFadden book I read and I enjoyed it very much. Wonderful characterization and a great story. I've marked many others "to read."

Kathryn Hall As I told you many months ago, Bernice, "Sugar will live in my heart forever."

Dona Sugar is one of my all time favorites. Such a wonderful story from a very talented writer. About time for a re-read.
