Piracy is bad, mmkay. Especially for indie authors and artists. We work very hard on our product, and for many, this is our livelihood. If there was something at the store you wanted, but didn’t feel like paying for and you take it anyway, it’s called stealing.
#piracy#and for those with flexible gray areas#stealing from a publishing company vs. stealing from an indie author#is like#stealing a coffee mug from walmart vs. stealing a handmade coffee mug from a local vendor at a farmers market#walmart will tackle you and you’ll face a fine/jail and their loss won’t be very high#the local crafter can only yell ‘HEY!’ and hope someone helps them and their loss is a financial impact#similarly#stealing from an indie author literally takes food out of our mouths#most of us are our own marketing team#our own pr#our own agent#and our own legal team#and while DMCA can take down piracy#it takes a lot of time for one person to play torrent whack-a-mole vs. a giant corporation#that’s time we don’t get to spend writing the books you like enough to pirate in the first place#so think about impact before you pirateBecause these tags were a necessary addition to this post.
