Scene set – Brian, a Pink Flamingo employee, has just introduced a new drag queen to Erika.
Brian settled onto a chair. "Did you hear the news?""About the Dragon and Peacock?" Erik nodded. "I closed the place and sent everybody home early. Lost a bundle." She shrugged. "It's just money. I couldn't stand to lose any of you." She patted Brian's arm. "You're all like family to me – in a strange kind of way – brothers for half the day and sisters the rest.""You been paying your protection money?"Erik nodded. "In this business, two things in life are for certain, taxes and protection money."Stewart and Sandee exited the room and sat at the table with Erik and Brian. Apollo walked to the center stage."He's not wired. No mic?" Erik glanced at Stewart."Trust us." He smiled and winked."Why do I suddenly have chills? Wait." She held up a hand. "You guys didn't hire a stripper did you? The guy's pretty hot. Biceps and a nice ass.""She's seen him for five minutes and she's checked everything, except the package." Sandee raised one eyebrow."Package has been noted and appreciated. That's what made me think of a stripper. Those white shorts are pretty tight." Erik grinned. A thrill scooted through her."When you all are done talking about my package, I'll sing. Gonna do this a cappella. I seem to have misplaced my back up band." Apollo  hooked his thumbs in his front pockets and locked gazes with Erik.A small fire buried deep in her flickered. She pushed the thought aside. He wasn't interested. He was just performing. She settled back in her chair and signaled to him to begin.He hummed a few bars, found his key, breathed in and released a musical delight. Erik lost herself in his words and the emotions of his song. His gaze never seemed to waver from hers. She felt he was singing to her. Not performing, but as if he were serenading her. As if he was interested. Maybe even wanted her. She mentally slapped her forehead. Hello? Crazy much? He's gay! Well, maybe not. Not all men who dress in drag…stop dreaming. He came in with Brian and the boys. 'Nuff said. But wow, is he hot.When he stopped, Brian and his friends jumped up, cheered and clapped. They turned to face Erik and waited. She stood and walked up to the edge of the stage. "I'm Erika Bailey and you can call me either Erik or Boss Lady."A grin spread across his face as he jumped off the front edge of the stage. "I got the job?""Hell yea. I don't think Darien Scott could sing it that good." She turned. "Stop by later and we'll work out a contract and get the paperwork for your work visa. Okay Brian, now work him into the show. I'm thinking maybe we have the fifth person for the Village People routine you wanted to do."Sandee clapped Apollo on that shoulder. "You'd be a great construction worker. Sleeveless flannel shirt to show off those biceps. Tight faded jeans to show off your—""Thighs?" Apollo grinned.Giggling, Sandee ran his gaze over Apollo. "Oh, so not the body part I was thinking of."
