I Was Going to Bore You, but I Think I'll Bore You with Something Different

It occurs to me that the way you sort fiction into genres is by picking the most fantastic element.

Hip young things with hip young jobs (let's say struggling writer, struggling actor, barista) live in a sweet Manhattan loft. (Friends).
...AND THEY FIGHT CRIME
... ...WITH SUPER POWERS (Spider Man... Okay, he lives in Queens.  You win on that one.)
... ... ...THAT THEY GOT FROM A WIZARD WHO LIVES IN A WORLD OF ELVES AND PEGACORNS

Let's try again.

Dudes in space. (Say, Gattaca)
...MANY LIGHTYEARS FROM EARTH (Star Trek)
... ...WITH SUPER POWERS (Star Wars, Farscape)

No, I don't have anything profound to say today.  How's things with you?
