The groundwork for the ultimate Moriarty reveal has been laid since the very first episode of Sherlock, but instead of listening to what we’re being told, we’ve let assumptions and inferences and blind spots lead us astray. Just like Sherlock has, in fact. But it’s all there, the truth about Moriarty, if we just look at what’s been right in front of us the whole time.

For us, as well as Sherlock, it’s been a long trip getting here. Late is better than never, I suppose…
