Fifty Shades: The Movie
Here we go!
I went to a press screening of Fifty Shades of Grey last night and was pretty amazed - at how well they had transformed the material into a classic Hollywood romance with dark undertones, and how well cast the movie is. Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan (from whom I kept on expecting a lapse into his native Irish accent and NEVER heard the slightest brogue once) have great screen chemistry. The seduction is movie-real enough. Dornan's damaged alpha is really good. And Dakota plays Anastasia Steele with a lot more spunk (and no inner goddess) than the novel. So even in a crowd full of seasoned professionals, when the curtain closed at the end of the film, they asked, "that's it?"
This is going to be HUGE. Think How Stella Got Her Groove Back meets Twilight with a big dash of 9 1/2 Weeks. Expect it to put the bullet to Sniper.
My plus one, also a seasoned movie reviewer (actually I was her plus one), turned to me and said, "it's not my kink, but this was well done." And it is, from the soundtrack to the clothing and all the book-related details. BTW, the red room of pain is gorgeous.
If you love the books, you'll love the movie. If you somehow hadn't read them yet, you'll be downloading them on your kindle tout suite. And if you hated the books, you just might like the movie anyway.
But if you run out of Fifty Shades books to read, and don't want to reread them, we have a few titles for you. Riverdale Avenue Books to Publish Enhanced Ebook Behind-the-Scenes Story of The Making of Going for the Gold by The World’s First Intersex Porn Star Taylor Lianne Chandler

“He made me feel like I was the most beautiful woman in the world. There is not one part of my body that he doesn’t know and he loved every inch of me. This movie will show just how passionate and loving our relationship was.”
In The Making of Going for the Gold, Taylor, who was born with both female and male parts, takes the reader through the experience of being thrust into the limelight, the decision-making process to make a porn video and deciding to become a voice for those born with double genitalia. “I wanted to make this movie to celebrate this incredible time in my life and also to open the conversation about people born with both male and female genitalia so that there will be more education and understanding of what it’s about,” said Taylor.
“Intersex is an umbrella term that has replaced hermaphrodite which is now considered politically incorrect,” says Taylor. “In my case, I was born with both a penis and a uterus. Even though my original birth certificate says that I was born male, I always felt that I was a female,” says the 5’8” Taylor, who has long blonde hair, brown eyes and a slim, but shapely figure.
Taylor is also at work on a longer autobiography which will chronicle her life story of growing up intersex and hopes to become a voice for a group of people who have remained largely unheard.

Mentoring My New Agents
I do hope you’ve been following our Agency blog now (agentinthemiddle.blogsport.com) and can see that we have started writing weekly posts here. I wanted to use this as an opportunity for you to get to know the taste and style of the agents who work here, since there are now six of us!
Three of my agents are fairly new – Tish Beaty, Rachel Brooks and Leon Huscock. Rachel and Leon did internships with others agents and Tish worked as an editor before she joined the Agency, but by and large they are fresh clay for me to mold. I have been having a wonderful time teaching them about the business and how it has changed over the years, as well as how it is changing right now as I type this.
I love to teach, almost as much as I love to write (I am actually teaching a class through Writer’s Digest University right now on epublishing). I began teaching at NYU in 1987 as a 24 year-old journalism grad because I had started a neighborhood newspaper in Manhattan and complained to my Dean that there were no women teaching in the newspaper part of the program. She said I was right and offered me an adjunct position. And when I left journalism and went into publishing, I taught at the Center for Publishing for many years.
Mentoring is also important to me. I was poorly mentored as a young journalism student at NYU. I was lucky enough to be assigned to intern at one of the leading feminist magazines of the day under the tutelage of a number of women who were legendary in the field. I imagined I would learn new and fabulous things, but when I sat in on my first editorial meeting and tried to contribute, I wa s told that I had nothing to offer because I hadn’t even marched on Washington yet. So I sorted through mountains of slush and was told to just reject everything because the editors already knew everybody worth knowing, but I pulled an essay by Candice Bushnell and kept it for a few years because I found her voice so compelling. If they had paid any attention to me, they could’ve launched her career.
But I digress.
I promised that when my turn came, I would take the time to truly mentor and try to match the interests and talents of my protégés with what we could both offer each other.
So I am thrilled to report that mentoring Tish, Rachel and Leon has been really exciting and interesting for me too. Each of them has enough of my taste to excite me when they take on a new project. I even wish I was repping some of their books, which makes it even more fun.
Tish is just the queen of erotic romance and erotica and she loves a good dirty story. It is so much fun to hear her discover new authors and send out their work.
Rachel has a passion for young adult, new adult and historicals that is daunting. She is discovering new writers every day and I am loving watching her find her clients.
Leon has a terrific passion for sci-fi and fantasy paired with the young adult and new adult wave of books. I hope he will find this generations’ new voices in two of my favorite genres.
Can you tell how much I am enjoying the teaching process with them? I am learning things about their style and books through their experiences. And learning things about myself as both an agent and a reader.

Falling in Love with the Passport to a Fling series
Sometimes you just want to curl up with a really good love story.
I was lucky enough to do that this holiday weekend, although I didn't know that was going to be on the agenda.
I had met Adam Carpenter a few years ago and encouraged him to start writing "smut," and he complied, selling his first erotic short story to me when I was the Editorial Director of Ravenous Romance in the Men in Shorts anthology I edited there. From there, he went on to write a few short stories, and then the Desperate Husbands series (which I still love). But, as you all know, I left RR to start Riverdale Avenue Books, and I left a few of Adam's books there as well.
Passport to a Fling started as a short story about three gay friends who have been looking for nookie in all the wrong NY neighborhoods and challenge themselves to find love in Paris, Rome and London, respectively. French Men, Italian Guys and English Lads were published under different titles, after my tenure as editor.
But I reconnected with Adam when I learned that he had sold some books to Ellora's Cave and he told me that he had gotten the rights to this earlier series back. I jumped at the chance to publish them, especially over the long Labor Day weekend when I was hoping that my readers could devour them like the delicious book man candy they are.
So I sat down to edit them fairly rapidly, and just fell in love with Matt, Freddie and Jake. The settings were romantic and the situations were exciting. I was honestly disappointed when the series ended, so I asked Adam to write us a Christmas story, which he will do (mark your calendar).
I hope you'll enjoy these hot m/m erotic romances as much as I did. Or as much as one of my other favorite erotic romance writers, Ryan Field, did:
