I have come upon the major correction in the new Bren book…

…did this part this summer, when most of you know I was not at my best. I knew I wasn't. I knew it wasn't. And I wouldn't turn it in until I had a chance to get my head right about it. Now the book will be what I wanted it to be.

So I'm happy. But this part of the work is going a shade more slowly, because I'm writing new material.

We got the two hemlocks planted on the side of the house. And we've discovered a method for untangling the yucca, about 10 plants that are deeply buried in grass...

The birch tree is still stuck at the shop…but our lawn is missing.

We had planned to go skating, then borrow Terry's truck, and today we'd get some progress on the taxes; but…

The lawn crew called up and wanted to strip the sod (which we have wanted done) so we can do what we want to do to the front lawn, to equal the Glorious Pond. So we cancelled skating and rushed to get ready.

Things never go smoothly. The crew had trouble with the stripper, so our yard now looks like the aftermath of one three-year-old using the dog clippers on his sister. It's going to ...

First I screwed up Jane's skating, she has a horrid allergy, and then…

…I suggested a new food item and poisoned her. Then she lost her Wacom board pen and we have spent two hours turning the house upside down trying to find it. She hasn't hit me yet, but I really wouldn't blame her.

1. This strange guy is hanging about the stopsign on our corner as we leave to go skating. I didn't like it. Jane's already incoherent with stuffy allergies and then I want to loop back to see if he's up to anything. A pickup truck picks him up, which means I guess he's ok, but now ...

Back on the ice today…

…wobbly, really wobbly. I'm tired of falling, understand: the bones have been jolted enough the last couple of weeks.
So did I wear my crash pads today? No. I was too tired to wrestle with the damn tights, which hold them in place. I just skated in street clothes and hoped not to fall.
By the end of the session, however, I'd gotten steadier. Jane pointed to one of my besetting sins, a left knee knocking in. I started working on that—tomorrow I'll add a patellar tracking band (Ace) and a wrap...

…haven't got the trip pix up yet: this is the pond re-start, with greenhouse-let and wall on Jane's blog; and Lynn's trip on Lynn's page.

Swan dive #2…I gotta stop doing this

First thing I did when I got home from the San Diego trip was hook a foot on the Christmas boxes in the mudroom and surf them down to the mudroom door, with attendant bruises.

I did better this morning. I usually get up at 5 to begin my day's work in peace and quiet: I brush the cat, watch the morning traffic, have my first cup of coffee, all in the dark—then take my computer from the floor where I left it last night from my evening's work, locate my glasses, and go back to my working chair i...

Wave Without A Shore now has over 800 members…

Hurrah for us. Our community is still growing. Don't hesitate to join us, if you have hesitated: we don't send you messages or spam or any sort of mailbox clutter, or let anybody else do it, either. I've been known to look up an addy when I need to contact somebody specifically, but that's the only use made of that list, pinky-swear, and if you make that first post, I can vet you're not a lawyer from Hong Kong and all your future posts will appear immediately.

Gardening again: hands in the dirt.

The fish are disgusted: days are in the mid fifties and nights at about mid twenties. So there's all this sunlight, and yet frost enough to keep them from eating.

We soaked seeds of morning glory and moonflower for opposite sides of the Moon Gate, the clematis is coming up, so is alyssum and johnny jump-up; peonies are reaching for the light; so is heuchera; and we are planting flats of green beans and sugar snap peas because we need a screen—we got pole beans, (that's green beans of a...
