My father read myths, legends, tales and fairy stories - gathered from around the world - to me when I was small, and so was born my love of fantasy.
As a quiet, shy child, to escape into another world through the words of a book, was a wonder I loved to experience.
I hope my writing does the same for other readers.

I live in the wilds of west Devon, England. I have two sons and a daughter who have grown to become really lovely people. I have variety of much loved animals roaming around my home. I've held down all sorts of jobs, but my favourite 'work' is and always will be writing.

I studied Creative Writing at Oxford and on gaining the diploma in 2011, I started work on an epic fantasy - The Wefan Weaves.

The Cracked Amulet is a cracking read, so I've been told. I'm hoping The Fractured Portal, book two in my Wefan Weaves trilogy, will be as well received.

Inspiration for my writing comes from what I've read, what I've seen, and where I've been. Ideas keep deluging my brain so I have to get them down or my skull would crack. The characters I've half created/half discovered tell me who they are and where they're going, what they're going to do in a particular situation and what they'll not do no matter what. I wonder if other writers find that their characters dictate to them after their creation?

I have to admit I'm a bit of a seat of the pants writer. But a few chapters in, I have a fair idea of where the story is going and can then outline the rest of it in a very sketchy way. The further I get, the more concrete that sketch becomes. Alternatively, it could get changed in a most dramatic way.

The characters come to me as I write, but really early on as they are the prime drivers of the story - their stubbornness, or impetuousness, or bravery, or loyalty, will affect the outcome of any scene, which is as it should be.

The Cracked Amulet evolved through many stages, first with a single protagonist then with more till I had four main POV's in all, one of which is an antagonist (I wonder if any readers will empathise with her). It happened this way because the story just could not be told by one person, it was far too big. In my second book of the Wefan Weaves trilogy, there are even more POV characters. The Fractured Portal is an even longer book. I hope you all will enjoy the read!

Mark Lawrence's review of The Cracked Amulet

This is truly awesome. Mark Lawrence not only read my book - he reviewed it. Thanks, Mark - and yes, you are far more handsome than you look in that photo of you and I :) But who cares, more important is that you're a great writer. For some reason, I seem to have two copies of Red Sister now, having received a second for Christmas. Perhaps I ought to get my act in gear and read it - twice :D
