Forgotten Road now published in paperback, so what is next?
Secrets of the Wyrde Woods: FORGOTTEN ROAD has now been published as paperback and kindle.
The Wyrde Woods series can be read separately from each other but just as the timeless Wyrde Woods overlap, so do the storylines. Besides ensuring there is a clear stand-alone story in each series I have also linked the storylines between the series to make reading both of them extra rewarding.
A lot is still planned for the future but in the overview below I'll only include the published books and WIPs(The unpublished works in progress between parentheses). This to share an insight into what is evolving into an epic saga which will span a century upon completion.
Secrets of the Wyrde Woods
Forgotten Road (feat. Joy,Ufmanna, Lewinna & Foster as overlap)
(Hidden Spring) (feat. Joy, Willick, Niada & Ellette as overlap))
(Ufmanna's Lament (feat. Joy, Willick, Ellette & Foster as overlap))
Lord of the Wyrde Woods
Escape from Neverland (feat. Joy & Willick as overlap)
Dance into the Wyrd (feat. Joy & Willick as overlap)
(Owl's Flight) (overall overlap)
To complicate matters there is a purely historical series which has character overlap.
Will's War
Will's War in Brighton (feat. Willick as overlap)
(Will's War in Exile) (feat. Willick, Ellette & Joy as overlap)
So a lot of work in progress but sooner rather than later all that effort will be poured into one work. Will's War in Exile is likely to be the next publication, followed by Hidden Spring.
Do visit me on Pinterest where each of the series has their own collection of images which have inspired me to create the Wyrde Woods.

Curtain Theatre Found
Some very exciting news for those who have been enthralled by a well executed performance of some very timeless plays and perhaps even been inspired by them.
I've injected the folklore of my urban fantasy books with some piracy, for me there can only be one name for a Fair Folk King or a Fae Queen. Those provided in Midsummer Night's Dream, a play which I encounter again and again. Oh, and a contemporary version of Puck.
Shakespeare nicked far more than I have done, I'm sure he won't mind.
That Puck fellow has been around for much longer, a very English archetype also known as Herne the Hunter, Robin Goodfellow, Robin Hood, Wodewose and a few other names those familiar with folklore would recognize.
I think the best Shakespeare performances I have seen are those where the director and cast recognized the archetypal roots of some of the characters and brought that to the fore in their own personal interpretation of timeless themes.

New Challenges
So there is one 1940s book which is purely historical (Will's War in Brighton) and one which mixed history with fantasy (Forgotten Road).
Both are due a sequel which correspond with their respective prequels.
The trick then is to think of a Wyrde Woods plot in which Joy and Will meet up but remain in their own world to some extent: Joy's full of magic and Will's bereft of magic, shims and pooks.
This is going to be tricky, to say the least, but definitely worth a try.

Countdown
Just a few days now until Forgotten Road is published in Kindle format (on the 10th of October). It all seems slightly surreal but I am working away hard on the paperback edition and hope to have that out soon too.
A new series of adventures in the Wyrde Woods then, starting with Forgotten Road. You may have read about Wenn Twyner’s adventures in the Wyrde Woods (+/- 2004) Prepare to travel back in time to the wondrous summer of 1940 when the world was turned upside down. This is Joy and Maisy's story. Though it has some intense moments it's far lighter fare, hopefully with some laughs and the central theme is friendship.
The series (Lord of the Wyrde Woods, Secrets of the Wyrde Woods and future series) can be read separately or as a whole as the stories are linked.
For the real Wyrde Woods junkies; Forgotten Road reveals a great deal more about St Lewinna and Pooks. A first encounter with Ufmanna foreshadows far more information about his background in a later book in the Secrets of the Wyrde Woods series.
Most of the action takes place in the Western Edgelands which did not feature in the first books: Farms around the North Woods Lane, villages of Wolfden and Mordrove as well as a part of the Wyrde Woods called Shims Copses. The Forgotten Road itself takes us to familiar places such as the Owlery, Roreford, the Falls, the Guardians and a few excursions east to Malheur Hall and Hornsby Farm.
Each book/series will focus on new as of yet unknown corners of the Wyrde Woods whilst also revisiting 'known' locations: hopefully a few of your favourites.

Brighton or Bust!
Well, I am about to return to Brighton. Part of the 'story' behind Will's War is that I had the audacity to write a book about the city (town back then) without having actually visited it. As mentioned elsewhere, I relied on a great deal of local input. Before publication of the current edition I did remedy that with a visit (as described in detail here: http://nissevisser.hubpages.com/hub/D...)
So...I return, with the first eager requests to get started on the intended sequel Will's War in Exile adding a bit of pressure, I don't mind admitting.
But...exile surely means not being in Brighton?
This is true, but I've been thinking of a possible outing to Brighton for Joy and Maisy too - trust an author to make the impossible seem logical. :-)
For readers of all books - do keep an eye out, when Forgotten Road is published, for some new information as to the layout of the Owlery ;-)
In the meantime, it's off to Brighton I go.

This is true, but exile also denotes missing a place so badly that it seems a part of your soul has been torn out of you. Ironically, perhaps, with a non-Brighton setting for Will and Brenda's second book, the need to understand Brighton and the way the inhabitants felt and feel about their home has become far more important. Besides that, Hidden Spring, expected in 2016, might just feature an outing to Brighton by some denizens of the Wyrde Woods.
