I got a new poetry note book, well six actually. Though I’m only using the one at the moment. Six for a pound was a good bargain that I couldn't turn down. WHSmiths want over three pound for one so I went to the pound shop and was glad I did. It doesn’t replace the stuff I lost but I can now at least make new verse as they come to me.
Rain has fed the weeds in the garden all week so I need clear them out this weekend. Most of it around my strawberries as well as at the front where Magz’s flowers are. My son did the grass during the week on the only really dry day which was good of him though Magz had to nag him to do while I was at work. Typical teenager then. Of course we all remember it being different when we were sixteen don’t we. The things that distract teenagers now may not have existed back when we were younger but they still act as we did. Always thinking that some how the parents are just making life hard for them as if it were something we would set out to do. That the world just likes to throw work at them that drag them away from what they want to do. Chores are the evil that parents burden their children with. Yes in time they will see it as we now see it but it still brings a smile to your face when you think about it, doesn’t it? Well it does for me.
My friend’s re-enactment wasn’t quite as large as I expected but it was still a nice day out. Really I only spent a half hour at it before heading into town with the wife and daughter. Not the greatest idea as it cost me money. Though really it was just me wanting to splurge my meagre savings. Magz has been hinting for a new camera so I picked up a second hand one at the pawnbrokers with twelve mega pixels. My daughter managed to get a game out of me for the playstation, which she just had to have. In the end it was a good day out. And I did get the note books.

8th July 2011

Well the first week of my holiday has gone and I’m still to start writing my next story. Plain laziness on my part. I did start out well by getting the work done in the garden though I could have done more. Yes the weeding and slab laying went faster than I thought it would. Of course now I have the front flower bed needing done. I noticed the weeds were gaining ground there today so is needing me to get out there. Only problem has been the weather today, heavy showers stopped me. Adding to that I had to go with Magz to the doctors, she’s put her back out. The doctor gave her painkillers plus told her to use a hot water bottle where the pain is worst. With Magz though the real problem is getting her to sit and rest long enough to let her back get better. She never likes taking it easy even when her body is telling her to do so. This means she will probably try to help me with the front garden when the weather does give me a good day to do it.
At least she didn’t try helping me last weekend. I had my son working with me then which I was glad of after all some of the slabs weren’t the lightest. That is where Calum was great. He’s certainly is not my little boy any more. No he’s really becoming his own man now and it only seems like yesterday that I was cleaning his scraped knee. Now he stands over me as well as almost twice my build. It does make me smile though even if we do argue sometimes.
I’m just short of enough gooseberries to make my wine. There are still some on the bush though which I’m hoping will give me just the right weight needed. Even if I’m an oz or so short it should be fine. Magz has also been enjoying the strawberries which are now ripening as well as send out shoots in all directions. That did make the weeding trickier, still I managed which is all that matters in the end.
I’ll need to get my finger out this coming week with the new story. It’s not like I haven’t thought it through or I have writer’s block, it has just been getting the drive to start. Sometimes that can be as bad as writer’s block though. Once you let yourself fall into that trap it can be a problem pulling yourself out of it. Well it can for me any way.

8th June 2012

It has been slow at work this week. Mind I have only been working a three day week given that I had a long weekend last week. Still the three days I have been have been long ones. I suppose it is to be expected after five days relaxing.
There was a meeting at work this week with some unhappy news at least for some. Our holidays have been changed to accommodate changes to the business. It’s a way of saying that due to expected increases to orders later in the year they want us to take three weeks holiday in the summer and give up our holiday in October. I’m alright with it because if it secures that I keep working then all is good. Some of my work-mates don’t like the idea and voiced their dissatisfaction at the changes. I understand why they feel like that as it means that after the September weekend we wouldn’t have another day off until Christmas. That combined with the dark mornings will make it a very wearying few months. Still as I said if it’s good for the company then it can only be good for me in the scheme of things.
My strawberries will need weeding again tomorrow. It will give me a chance to check to see how the fruits are developing. None are ready yet that mush I know but I have seen some growing out of the flowers already, casting their petals as they do. I’ll also see how my apple and gooseberries are doing. The gooseberries were looking good the other day when I was having a look. It will be a few weeks though till their ready for picking but they are starting to fatten up nicely. Though this year isn’t as good as last year’s crop in the amount on the bush, sadly. I think that is due to the colder spring that we had though it doesn’t seem to have affected the apples as much. I’m looking forward to a good crop come autumn.

10th August 2012

Calum has finally moved his room around just as the good weather arrived. Maybe the sun in the sky has given him new energy or it might have something to do with him going to the gym over the past week. He got a free trial period with a friend and they have been going each day. It’s good to see him getting more active as he has been putting on a lot of weight over the past year. Trying to get him to deal with the growing waist line has been a nightmare with him coming up on his eighteenth. At that age we are all more sensitive to criticism especially concerning looks or weight. I did try to just encourage him t go for walks. Unfortunately that triggered the defensive stance that all parent of teenagers will know. Sadly the trial period is only for a month and I can’t see him finding the money to continue beyond that. Of course he should be at college by then and I never know he could still get a part time job. I live in hope.
The sun is to stay with us over the weekend so I’m planning on more weeding this weekend. My strawberry patch needs sorting out again. Magz cut the grass over the past few days so that saves me one job. Another she did was the hedges or at least most of them. I still have do cut the tall one at the back behind the strawberries.
It is a pity that some of the good weather will be missed due to getting my son’s new desk built. That is of course depending on Calum being ready to get the work done as he’s away out tonight with friends. I’m not sure if he has plans for tomorrow night but I’m hoping he doesn’t so he’ll be able to get the job done on Sunday.
