23rd December 2011

Two days to go and everything is ready for the big day. I’ve even wrapped Magz’s secret present then hid it away again. I’ll give it to her after all the other gifts have been stripped of their paper. I know, how mushy am I? But it is Christmas only once a year so I’m allowed, hehehe.
I see a lot of people have left the shopping to the last minute. I’ve never really understood the excitement people get from the frantic rush. Then there is the crowds pushing their way to find a bargain. Personally I don’t think that there every really are any to be had. I think the retailers just play a game of clever deception when it comes to those last few days’ sales before Christmas to drag the multitude in. Still I suppose shops have to do something to get people to buy especially as the internet has taken a large slice of business over the past ten years from them.
As you can tell I prefer the quiet Chrimbo and with the next four days off I’m planning on just that with the family. You can call me boring if you want as long as I still get to sit back with my slipper on I don’t mind. I’ll sit back and watch some telly with a hot mug of tea, hehehe.
I do have to vote in the poetry competition. I’ve already read most of the entries scoring them as I go to whittle them down to the ones that I like best. So far that means I have four winners so I have some tough decisions to make. After I have finished reading the last few I have to read then I will reread all the ones that I scored highest and hopefully find my three favourites. At least I will have plenty of time to savour the work of others.
Hope you all have a great Christmas and don’t get caught out in the crowds. Well that is unless you really love the great seasonal dash.

24th February 2012

I have to say a happy birthday to my daughter Tammy, she turned fifteen today. As with every parent I look at her and wonder where those years have gone. We all do it don’t we? One minute you’re holding them in your arms then you turn round to do some thing and when you turn back they’ve grown far too much, hehehe.
Manager Allen continues to put his foot down at work to the chagrin of some of my fellow colleagues. I just see as him trying to establish his authority which is to be expected. Slowly though those that are unhappy are getting used to him but I don’t think it will happen over night. It can’t be easy though for those that have worked there longer than myself as they are used to a more relaxed attitude towards break times than Allen is willing to give them. I must admit though that I did enjoy the more forgiving way it was before he arrived but we are there to do a job if you know what mean?
I voted in the competition at Absolute Write and now need to wait to see how I did or do. It wasn’t easy picking three as all the entries had a lot going for them and none stood above any of the others by any great deal. It took much rereading before I got it down to the just three. I will know hopefully by next week and will post my poem and report who the winners were next week. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

2nd March 2012

It has been a reasonable week at work this week. I’m being taught how to work the retort, that’s the large pressure cookers or boilers that the cans get cooked in. You have to keep an eye on the pressure gauges and that sort of thing. There is a lot to learn so it will take time but already I’m getting to grips with loading as well as unloading using the crane hoist. I’m taking notes in a note book that Allen gave me. Of course this has sparked off one or two rumours which I’m not taking much notice of at the moment as nothing official has been said to me.
The votes for the poetry competition are now being counted. I was more confident about my poem before the end of voting on Wednesday. Strangely now I just hope to have not finished last. It’s funny how confidence can wane when the end is in sight sometimes. Regardless of the result the fun was in the taking part and I’m sure the winner will be a deserving recipient of the accolade of taking first prize.
It’s Magz’s birthday this weekend. Yes it was Tammy’s just last week. As you know though I got her present weeks ago, in fact before Valentines as well as the card. I like to get things like that sorted so as not to be rushing around last thing. I find it makes life so much simpler and there is less chance of you forgetting, which is a risk with how quickly these kind of events have of seeking up on you. Maybe that is just me as that thinks the years seem to be getting shorter, hehehe.

1st August 2015

Absolute Write is running another poetry competition which I have entered. The theme is space. Any kind of space. For instance space between my ears, between people in the same room or lack of space. Basically a vary wide subject matter as it can cover so many different things. I don't really thing I made the most of the subject but once the competitions is over I will post it in my blog here, That will be in September and you will then judge for yourselves.
Finally July is over and another month has come. Though it isn't the worst July I remember, that would be '88, it has been wet. The garden has suffered for it. Only yesterday Magz and me had to tie up the cooking apple tree again. The weight from rain and fruit was too much for it In the winter I will have to be very hard on it when I come to prune it. It is the only way to try and stop it from being so top heavy. I also need t rethink the strawberries patch. This year they haven't produced any real fruit. Part of that will be the bad weather but some of it is due to the shading that the fruit trees are now providing to that section of the garden. I will use the grow bag I was trying to grow corn in for them next year. Of course I will need to move them before they begin sending out runners so that will mean the next week. That is if the weather allows me the time.
