Saturday Snippets…Character
Hmmm… this is character…two of them!
“Run that by me again.”
If Joss hadn’t been so pissed off, he might have been amused at the tone he heard in Jones’ voice.
“I have a body.” He paused for a count of five and then added, “Relax. I didn’t kill him. I want to, and if you don’t get here soon, I just might let myself. He’s in the trunk of a car that I’m stealing from him. I don’t know what to do with him, but we can’t exactly just let him start making all those free phone calls he’s entitled to.”
Joss believed in rights–he believed in rights even for the guilty–the very fucking guilty, in this case. But he also knew that if this guy went and lawyered up right now, he’d be making phone calls that would endanger their case…and lives.
That was a pickle, he supposed.
One he was glad Jones would have to juggle.
“I’m starting to think you enjoy this,” Taylor muttered. “All of you. Complicating my life has become a past time in this unit.”
“Nah.”
“If it’s not a past time, it sure as hell ought to be.”
“Oh, it’s a past time. But you said has become. It’s more like always been. We love seeing you get a little hot and sweaty and smoothing down those ties you like to wear. I told people that was the one sign you showed when you were getting pissed–you smooth your tie down. Dez used to make you do it three or four times a day.”
Taylor didn’t sound amused as he said, “I’m not smoothing my tie right now. I’m about ready to take it off in preparation to strangle you with it.”

She rolled her eyes. “You don’t seem to have problems speaking the unspeakable.”
“True.” He caught her skirt in his hand, tugged her to him. “I plan on tying you up and fucking you shortly. Want to hear how I’m going to do it?”
Her breath caught. He loved the way it did that…a little hitch in her chest, like he’d just sucked the oxygen right out of her lungs. He loved it.

On Night Blade
I’ve been getting several Qs on this lately so I’m just going to address it all here…
Q: Will you be sending out review copies?
Not personally, no. I might do a few random giveaways on the blog, but I’ll do the same thing I did last time and use Netgalley. Once I have the info/know it’s live, I’ll post the info here.
Q: Will it go to audio?
Nooooo… probably not ever. Producing audio books is expensive. I asked a friend who is a voice actress, because I was curious. Just that aspect alone would run a few thousand from what I could understand. That doesn’t take into consideration production costs. I know nothing about audio books, but you do need a voice actress, somebody who knows and understands speaking a story. It’s not cheap and sadly, with a self-pubbed book I can’t do it. If I can’t do it well, I won’t do it at all.
Q: Will it go to print?
Yep. Working on it. I’m hoping to get it up for preorder even, but I can’t guarantee.
Q: Are there more?
That’s the plan. I’m working on Broken Blade now.

Her breathing caught and she watched as a wicked little grin canted up the corner of his beautiful mouth. She just wanted to eat him sometimes, hold his face in her hands and kiss him until they were stupid with it and then work on down…
“What are you thinking?” he asked softly.
Catching her lip between her teeth, she studied him. Man, if he had been one of the few lovers she’d had before hooking up with Tim, she could have told him. Easily. Tim had never been one for wanting to know her thoughts, but the others…yeah. They’d been pretty good. Tim…well, he’d pushed all her kink buttons, but he’d never wanted to talk with her.
If she hadn’t been reeling emotionally and just looking for something, she never would have married him, she knew.
But it was harder to tell Marc.
Because Marc was the only man who’d ever managed to really matter.
“I’m thinking I’d like to kiss you stupid,” she finally said. “Then I’d liked to get on my knees and take you in my mouth and see if I could make you feel about as weak and crazy as you make me.”
Something flared in his eyes, a wild, crazy glint. He tossed the vibrator back down and stood. “Do it, then.”
Swallowing, she accepted the hand he offered and stood, easing in closer until she was pressed against his chest, waiting. He grinned down at her, his hair falling into his face. “You wanted to kiss me stupid, baby girl. Have at it.”
Cupping his face in her hands, she eased up onto her toes, angling her head just a little as she pressed her mouth to his. Hmmm. The way he tasted. He was…yeah. Just amazing. Just like his voice. Whiskey-soaked addiction.

Today…Experiments in Genderbending
I wrote an excerpt for a contest sorta thing at Teresa Frohock’s blog. I didn’t mention it much on the blog because I was curious to see how many people who didn’t know much about (or anything) about my work would be able to guess if I was male or female just by reading the excerpt that was posted.
Results are being posted over at her blog today… you all might have fun reading the excerpt. Especially if you like my UF books. Dunno if I’ll do another thing like that or not.

Saturday Snippets… EMOTION!

Flash, flash, flash–
A delivery…
Images of a girl, the light, creamy brown of a woman of mixed heritage. Freckles sprinkled across her nose. A charming smile.
And…most gut-wrenching of all, Joss’s voice…I met her at the foodcourt. She’s here on vacation. Was supposed to come with a friend and the friend had to cancel. Nobody will be looking for her for the next ten days. When he spoke, there was an ugly, menacing hate in his voice.
She stumbled and slammed a hand down, bracing it by the curving wall of the stairwell at her back as the memory burned itself into her brain, followed by another. And another.
First there was a picture of a girl smiling at the camera. Then another, bound, gagged…and glaring at the camera.
The girl next door…
Patrick picturing the girl in a formal. Fuck…bloody fuck. Dru knew that dress. It was the one he’d selected for her bridesmaids. Of course, she didn’t have any. He’d said he’d see to it…
This wasn’t happening.
A cruel hand gripped her arm, so at odds with Patrick’s gentle voice as he inquired, “Ella, are you feeling unwell?”
Swallowing back the bile that churned in her throat, she said softly, “The champagne, Patrick. I think it’s gone to my head. Perhaps I should lie down.”
Moments later, one of the house servants was at her side to escort her up the stairs. Just before she reached the top, she looked down, found herself staring down at Joss.
He was one of them.
Damn him.
The betrayal, the deep, gut-wrenching sense of pain all but blinded her.
Damn him straight to hell.
