Dealing

Kindle

Posts might get a little scattered for a while.  I’m trying to stay on top of things with a release coming out soon, but…um.  Well, I got stuff going on.

While I’ve suspected for a while, it was just confirmed that our youngest does indeed have ADHD.  She’s also wicked smart, something else that I’ve pretty much always known.

While I wouldn’t take either of those traits away from her, things are kinda rocky in the household and I need to spend some time getting her on track-knowing more of what we’re dealing with definitely helps, but its’ going to be a work in progress.

It’s…eh, not necessarily easier to understand, but I can look at this with a broader view because of years of working with kids.  I knew what I was seeing and part of me hoped this wouldn’t be so overwhelming.  Yet even knowing this was coming, I’m still overwhelmed.  Even working up to this for months, I’m still overwhelmed and my brain wants to just…asplode.

I don’t see this as a negative thing, at all, which is part of why I’m discussing this.  A lot of people still don’t understand much about things like ADHD– (along with many, many, many other things) they figure it’s a discipline (or lack of) issue or others still have issues just addressing it.

If only it was a matter of discipline.  My youngest has had more discipline than the other two combined.  She needs it.  She also needs structure and rules.  It’s the very foundation of her world.

I’m not ashamed to talk about the fact that I likely have it.  There’s no reason to be-it made me a writer.  My daughter is creative, funny and gifted.  The ADHD is just part of her, and I wouldn’t change anything about her.

My doctor hasn’t ‘officially’ diagnosed me, but there’s never been any doubt of who she gets this from. When we were explaining this to her, I told her that she knows a couple of people, at least, who also have this and one of them grew up to be a writer.  It didn’t take her but a second to figure out who I was talking about.  The creativity that drives me to create stories, to see a picture in in even the strangest of settings comes from the way my brain works and I wouldn’t change it for anything, nor would I change her.

But there’s going to be some struggles because while I coped and adjusted fine, it’s not so easy for her.

It’s lot more than just a short attention span or the oh-shiny thing that some people think.  It’s more than just having 20 radio stations blaring all at once in your head and you can’t figure out which one you’re supposed to listen to. And I got nothing but respect for the parents out there who are already walking this road.  I’m still trying to just get my feet under me.

So if I’m not around here as much, or the other places I normally am, it’s because there’s just other stuff going on.  Family is always first.

Comments are off because while I understand the intent because advice and suggestions, I tend to do better figuring things out on my own.

Scary, sexy bastard…

Kindle

I gotta admit.  I fell for Gus.  Hard.  He’s trying so hard to protect this kid, trying so hard not to fall for Vaughnne.

snippet!

The Protected

Shit.

Vaughnne should have taken those thirty seconds to breathe, she decided, because now it was too late.

His mouth, brutal and hungry, crushed down on hers. She went to shove him away, but he caught her hands and, in a blink, had them pinned at her back. His tongue probed at her lips and the need to open for him almost sent her to her knees. Well, it might have, except his body was pressed to hers. Long, lean, and powerful, and so amazing.

Against her belly, her chest, she felt the hard wall of his chest, the muscled plane of his belly . . . and, oh, hell.

The ridge of his cock pressed against her and any thought of self-preservation went out the window. She opened for him, and as his tongue swept into her mouth, she welcomed it with a greedy moan.

He stilled, for just a second, and then lifted his head, staring at her through slitted eyes. She licked her lips and watched him, breathing raggedly. “If that’s supposed to make me run for cover, sugar, they taught you some crazy shit down there in Mexico,” she said.

The room spun around them and she sucked in a breath right before he slammed her against the cool, hard wood of the bathroom door. The bruises on her body screamed out at her. The need inside her body screamed louder, and she reached up, curled her hands into his shirt. “That’s not doing it, either, Gus.”

He closed one hand around her throat, pressing his thumb lightly.

It didn’t hurt.

But the threat was obvious.

Something dark, dangerous glinted in his eyes. “If I told you that I’ve killed some of your fellow agents, would you still be laughing at me, Vaughnne? Still be taunting me?”

Some of the heat inside her eased back, but she didn’t look away. “I’m pretty sure I’m familiar with what an assassin is. You’ve killed. So have I. I’m still not running.”

talking about smooth operators today…

Kindle

Saturday Snippets! I don’t think I have anybody as smooth as Gus. His edges are kind of rough right now, but he’s under a lot of pressure.

The Protected

Seconds later, the bathroom door closed at her back.

And then, she seemed to be the one who needed protection.

Gus went from the quiet protector to the warrior who’d leveled a gun at her, fully prepared to kill her. Before she could even catch her breath, he slammed her against the door, his forearm at her throat, pressing hard enough that she couldn’t draw her breath to scream.

She could have fought back.

She knew that.

And she knew how.

But as his misty eyes stared into hers, her heart slammed against her chest and she couldn’t breathe, could barely even think.

It wasn’t fear that seemed to crowd out all of her thoughts, though. Fear she could have handled.

This was so, so much worse.

“You need to understand something.” He leaned in, pressing his mouth to her ear. “And I want you to listen to me, very, very closely . . . Vaughnne. Is that even your name?”

She was pleased that her voice was almost steady as she said, “Yes. It’s my name. I gave you a false last name, but my first name is Vaughnne.”

“Hmmm.” He nuzzled her neck and little licks of pleasure shot all the way through her. “And FBI . . . are you really FBI?”

“Yes.” She closed her eyes as he pushed his thigh between hers. Oh, hell. What the hell was this? “You can call DC. They can verify.”

“They routinely give out names of their agents, Vaughnne?”

He licked her. What . . . the . . . hell? She shuddered as he crowded in closer. His forearm was still wedged against her throat, preventing her from moving, but it was no longer pressing against her so tight that it was a chore just to breathe. Well, it was, but that was because of the sheer, burning weight of lust. He traced his tongue down the line of her neck. “You did not answer me.”

Accent, she noticed dimly. He had an accent—she hadn’t ever heard it before. And she would have noticed, too, which meant the man’s skills just went from Category 4 strange to Category 5. At least.

Swallowing, she focused on his question. “Generally, no. But if you call and ask for the man I tell you to ask for, he will verify.”

“And isn’t that convenient?” He laughed a little, resting his free hand on her hip. His fingers flexed and she felt the imprint everywhere he touched. Every single place, from his thumb, to his little finger, curving over her flesh, kneading back and forth . . . “You give me a false number. A false name. So easy to fool me, you think?”

As his mouth came to cover hers, she averted her head. Finally, her brain was engaging.

Sex as a weapon. Not something she’d ever had directed at her, but whoa. Damn. That’s what this was and he was potent as hell. “You can look the damn number up on Google. I’m pretty sure I can’t control Google, although if I can get them to give me some major shares in the stock, hey, I’m game to try. You call that number, I’ll tell you how to get connected to the man who can vouch for me.”

His knee pushed between her thighs, and this time, no matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t keep from shuddering. Couldn’t keep from whimpering as he drew her in until she was all but riding his thigh. Oh. Hell.

“And what will he tell me when he vouches for you? What happens then? Somebody comes in here to take the child from me? I don’t think so, Vaughnne.”

“Nobody wants to take him away,” she snapped. And then she curled her hands into fists to keep from reaching for him as he shifted and settled his hips squarely between her own. She felt him now. All of him, the ridge of his cock, hot and thick, and damn it, if he hadn’t been aroused, this would have been easier, so much easier.

But sex as a weapon wasn’t really useful if the weapon wasn’t primed and ready to fire, she supposed.

Summoning up what little strength she had, she closed her eyes. She went through her options and discarded all but a few. As she was busy with that, he shifted the forearm he had wedged across her upper body. Cooler air kissed her flesh and she hissed as she realized he had freed the top button of her shirt.

No. Absolutely no.

As he reached for the second one, she opened her eyes and stared at him.

He stared right back at her.

Read more… it’s due out next month.  FYI, for those who enjoy this series, if you want the book in print from your local bookstore, you might want to have them pre-order it.  More and more stores aren’t carrying as many of my titles.

Get Protected…looking for some bloggers!

Kindle

Get Protected…

Ya know…it’s getting tricky trying to come up with a theme for these blog things.  Anyway.

Want to help spread the word about my upcoming release, The Protected?

I’m looking for a few good bloggers to help me out here.

It will involve things like this widget (I’ll get you the code), Rafflecopter (I’ll get that code, too) and some prizes.  Participating bloggers will be entered for a cool prize from Shiloh, your readers will have a chance to win a GC & a cool bag of prizes (bloggers are welcome to enter, too, but there’s a special prize just for the bloggers) from me and I’ll get all the information to you once I have the dates hammered out.

If you’re interested, please leave your name and blog addy below.

Depending on interest, I’ll select the names and be in touch with the bloggers chosen.

The prize for the bloggers who help spread the word on The Protected?

The names of those who help out will go into a pot and I’ll draw a name or names, depending on participation. The winner(s) will receive an ARC of Broken Blade, delivered in PDF, sometime in October. That’s one month before it will go up on Netgalley.

(There will be a few ARCs of Broken Blade just randomly given away closer to release time, so if you don’t blog, I am keeping you in mind. It’s just not time yet. Thank you!)

Hey, authors…got books?

Kindle

So, some of you have probably seen my posts about helping out the troops.  I’ve got a contact who works with the Support Our Soldiers group, one of the charities that…well, provides support to the soldiers.

One of the things Kelley does is send books.

When I get my author copies, I send her anywhere from 5-10 copies.  She sends these to various groups.

And they love them.  I’ve got pictures and notes from the men and women who write her back…they don’t often write me, but they do write her and they so appreciate getting the books.

One of my prized possessions is a flag that was sent to me in appreciation for the books I’ve sent.

If you have books that you can spare, her list of authors is getting thin.  She does need print titles.  They don’t always have easy access to get ebooks, but if you have some spare author copies, I’m sure they’d appreciate them.

I can’t really answer any Qs about this, but if you want to talk with Kelley, you can shoot her an email at kelleygranzow@yahoo.com.  She’s done a lot of work with the SOS functions over the years and I know the troops would appreciate the support.

And yes… they enjoy romance. :)

One for Me, One for You

Kindle

Yes!  Lynn Viehl’s new book is out!

ladyship

In a steampunk version of America that lost the Revolutionary War, Charmian (Kit) Kittredge makes her living investigating magic crimes and exposing the frauds behind them. While Kit tries to avoid the nobs of high society, as the proprietor of Disenchanted & Co. she follows mysteries wherever they lead.

Lady Diana Walsh calls on Kit to investigate and dispel the curse she believes responsible for carving hateful words into her own flesh as she sleeps. While Kit doesn’t believe in magic herself, she can’t refuse to help a woman subjected nightly to such vicious assaults. As Kit investigates the Walsh family, she becomes convinced that the attacks on Diana are part of a larger, more ominous plot—one that may involve the lady’s obnoxious husband.

Sleuthing in the city of Rumsen is difficult enough, but soon Kit must also skirt the unwanted attentions of nefarious deathmage Lucien Dredmore and the unwelcome scrutiny of police Chief Inspector Thomas Doyle. Unwilling to surrender to either man’s passion for her, Kit struggles to remain independent as she draws closer to the heart of the mystery. Yet as she learns the truth behind her ladyship’s curse, Kit also uncovers a massive conspiracy that promises to ruin her life—and turn Rumsen into a s supernatural battleground from which no one will escape alive.

I’m a Lynn Viehl fiend.  I just bought this and I’m going to buy another copy…one for somebody else, to make another fiend.  Want it?  Just leave a comment and tell me whether or not you’ve read one of her books… as Lynn, as S.L Viehl, as Gena, Jessica, (she has many names…) O.O.

FYI, because of territory issues and the hassles I’ve previously had with with books not readily available in some countries, I’m restricting this contest to countries that have Amazon… if you’re in the US, you’re welcome to request BN. If you don’t have Amazon, there are no substitutions and I can’t send you a file or print book, so please don’t enter. At some point, itunes will hopefully make it as easy to gift a book as Amazon does, but it hasn’t happened yet that I can tell, so we’re going with Amazon.

It looks like it’s available in US, Spain, Canada, the UK, France, Italy, Germany, Japan, so if you’re in those countries, have at it! If not, I do apologize, but territory issues are something I have no control over and neither does the author.

Please read the disclaimer...winner will be posted later this week and you have to check back to see if you’ve won.  I don’t email my winners.

Blade Song…

Kindle

So when I first wrote Blade Song, it went through several rounds edits, including a couple of beta readers, but the bottom line is, I can’t get the treatment that I’d be getting on my NY titles.  I did the best I could, but my eyes can’t pick up the little missing words–I see what I think is there.  The editors I used picked up a crap-ton, literally-trust me, you should the way I turn a book in.

But I decided I was going to reach out to the beta readers I found for Broken Blade and see if I couldn’t clean Blade Song up some more.

So that’s done.  The cleaned up file is now on Smashwords, and it will be redistributed to Amazon, B&N, etc over the coming weeks.

I’m also slowly going to tidy up the other selfpub books I’ve got out there, as time allows.

I only cleaned up the files, though–typos, etc.  There was nothing added to the books.

If you haven’t read it and would like to, there is a coupon, making the book $2.00.

The coupon code is WR96X.  You can buy it here.
