More From My Buddy Tim

I guess I'll keep posting these since people seem to enjoy them, but I'll start putting them under a cut in case anyone is sick of being exposed to the AFA's hate speech.

To: Tim Wildmon
From: PZB

Dear Tim,

I feel that we've become friends during this e-mail exchange, and I hope I can speak to you honestly. I really think you're getting a little too obsessed with these homosexuals. Is there something you'd like to discuss with me? I'm very nonjudgmental and will always keep your words in confiden...

FIIGTA & New eBay Listings

Two things, at least tangentially related. Last night I had a couple of beers, decided "Fuck August 29, fuck the federal levee failure, and fuck hurricane season," and made reservations to spend nine days in Amsterdam in late August/early September. Chris can't go, but I'll be able to bring him back a good birthday present. I can in no way afford this, and part of me feels disloyal as hell deliberately leaving not just town but THE WHOLE DAMN COUNTRY, not just during hurricane season (which I...

But Here's A Cheerer-Upper!

[By the way: Anyone who wants to repost any of this AFA stuff in their journal or elsewhere is of course welcome to do so. And for the folks who don't do home repair, may I remind you that Home Depot also stocks an excellent selection of plants, pots, gardening supplies, cleaning supplies, organizational material, batteries, light bulbs, and other miscellanea most people need at some point? Most of it is pretty well-priced too.]

Dear Tim,

As I wrote in my recent e-m...

I Am Hallucinating Atrocities

I obviously have a fever of at least 103º. I haven't checked it, nor do I feel particularly hot, but a high fever would seem to be the only explanation for my hallucination that I just read this article in the Times-Picayune:

SURVIVOR: Chalmette

I know I can't really be reading about how Chalmette has allowed actors "colonists" to move into an already-blighted apartment complex that was completely devastated by the federal levee failure and pretend they are having a big fake whoopie-doo apocaly...

Sometimes You Love Your Spam Box

To: AFA Action Alert
From: PZB

Thank you for alerting me to Home Depot's admirable policies and respect for other people. I'll be sure to shop there more often than I already do, and I spent $500 there last week. I'll also post this information on my blog, which has several thousand readers. You've just gained Home Depot a great deal of business.

Very sincerely yours,

P.Z. Brite

eBay, AC, and Cat Hair

Sitting here in the cool room with what sounds like the last of Bonnie rolling in. The Internet seems to be flickering in and out, so I won't attempt to provide any actual content; just wanted to let folks know that I will be resuming eBay auctions after our AC is fixed (which is supposedly happening Tuesday, but who knows). This will be an expensive and horrible process which involves moving our stacked washer and dryer out into the kitchen so the AC guys can get to the coil, take it outside...

The Gulf

We made it home. We'd had such a wonderful time that we were able to endure the first night without air conditioning. Well, I was. I don't suffer so much from the heat as long as I don't have to do anything strenuous; I mostly just lie around and become stupefied, like a basking reptile. But Chris suffers, and he didn't sleep much that night, and by the next morning I was getting a little cranky myself, especially after the AC guy came back and told us that the repairs will be (A) major and (...

RINGO

First let me get this out of the way:

***SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE***

We are in Biloxi and we saw Ringo and his All-Starr Band last night and I was standing up in the audience waving and he pointed at me and said, "I SEE YOU, BIG GUY." I am validated forever.

Anyway, because we are wallowing in decadent luxury at Beau Rivage and our air conditioning at home is still broken and it's blessedly frigid in this vast climate-controlled resort, we have decided to stay an extra day. People who won my eBay a...

Greil Marcus on the Magic of Music

I have worn myself out being unusually active over the past few days and think I might go to bed ridiculously early. I've been reading Greil Marcus' In The Fascist Bathroom: Writings on Punk 1977-1992 and I wanted to transcribe this bit:

If you're lucky, at the right time you come across music that is not only "great," or interesting, or "incredible," or fun, but actually sustaining. Though some elusive but tangible process, a piece of music cuts through all defenses and makes sense of every f...
