Yum

Just used the world's slowest wireless connection at Starbucks to put up new eBay auctions: hardcover first editions of The Value of X and D*U*C*K; chapbooks Used Stories and Stay Awake; an uncorrected proof of Guilty But Insane; and a lettered copy (D) of Antediluvian Tales. At least I got a mocha frappucino out of it.

By request, what I ate at Emeril's last night:

- Chargrilled Gulf oysters topped with marrow and sea urchin

- Andouille-crusted drum with roasted vegetables and shoestring potatoes

- Black Forest doberge cake with vanilla semifreddo and cherry compote

- The creamiest, most awesome Delice de Bourgogne cheese ever

Dammit, now I'm hungry again.

Out Of How Many Episodes?

Tired last night after the marvelous parades, Grey and I turned on some TV for Aging Gen-Xers channel and found WKRP in Cincinnati, which neither of us had seen in thirty-plus years. Of course it just had to be the episode where people are spreading rumors that Les Nessman is gay and Jennifer is transsexual. What are the chances?

I had a lot of feelings, as they say, about how the (non)gayness was handled fairly seriously while the (non)transsexuality was a punchline, and how today the gayness would be normal to most modern TV viewers, while the transsexuality would probably still be a punchline. However, I have fond memories of WKRP, and I'm typing this out on my phone, so I don't know if I really want to get into it.

Happy Easter! Grey and I are off to the parades. Life is lean but good.

Questions Not To Ask

So there's this somewhat masculine-looking woman who hangs out at the laundromat I go to who (I think) reads me as a boyish lesbian and flirts aggressively every time she sees me there. I've told her I'm a guy who likes guys, but it doesn't seem to take.

Today she came in just as I was finishing up, and before she could even get to me, a guy started harassing her. "Are you a woman? Do you like girls?" She put him off more politely than he deserved, and I pulled my clothes out of the dryers and got the hell out of there. His questions really pissed me off, and I felt like an asshole for not saying something, but then I worry I'd be her knight in shining armor forever and ever.

Androgyny makes people think they have the right to ask intrusive questions, and often makes them outright mean. I don't know why, but it does. </p>

First world problems, what are you gonna do. Or maybe second world; it's a fairly crappy laundromat.

No Internets For Me

Due to unforeseen circumstances, I won't have computer Internet access at home for a while. This is somewhat inconvenient for a person currently running two businesses online, but I can do a lot of stuff on my phone and at Grey's. Generally, many exciting things are happening, and things are looking up.

Since I can no longer abide the words "Bl**dy M*ry," Grey has given them the code name "House of Lannisters."

Tristan is happy too.

Urp

So I did some drunk tweeting from the Phoenix last night and Rickey told Peter Straub he loved him. I'm usually a happy drunk, but Rickey is not. I think "YAY BLOODY MARYS & HOUSE OF LANNISTER" may well be my lifetime masterpiece.

Looking Up (& eBay)

I'm sorry if my last few posts worried people. My life is what it is right now, and it's a lot better than some. Grey and I are determined to take care of each other. I feel like things are looking up for both of us.

New eBay auctions are up, a bunch of nice and somewhat rare hardcovers: a first edition of Lost Souls with a colored pencil sketch I did of a Chartreuse bottle and Mardi Gras mask; a Seed of Lost Souls lettered PC copy; first editions of The Value of X and D*U*C*K; also a CD of me reading the Dr. Brite story "Monday's Special."All items are signed and can be personalized. As ever, thanks for looking.

eBay & Stuff

eBay auctions ending tonight. Still some good bargains there. I'm posting from Grey's right now, but may not have Internet access again until tomorrow, so please forgive me if I don't send out invoices right away.

Last night, for the first time in my life, I went to bed hungry simply because there was nothing to eat. Nevertheless, I feel weirdly cheerful and optimistic. This new life is burning away bad residues of my old, complacent one.

No Internet

I'll be mostly without Internet over the next couple of days for reasons unmentionable but not particularly alarming.

New JKT Biography

Yesterday sucked pretty mightily, so I was especially happy when today's mail brought a copy of the new John Kennedy Toole biography, The Butterfly in The Typewriter , from a kind reader who must have intuited that I'd been coveting it. (Jules, this is not your official thank-you -- I am sending you a scenic picture postcard!) I'd wanted to go to one of author Cory MacLauchlin's local signings this week, but was embarrassed to do so because I knew I couldn't afford a copy of the book at the moment. I've met Cory a couple of times and he seems a likely young man, so I have high hopes for it.

Once again, my readers rule. Y'all got my back.
