Stones and Their Personalities
My NOLA Jewels designs are gradually making their way back to PZBART, their original home, but with a few new features. Since PZBART seems to be taking on a definite voodoo/metaphysical/healing bent, I decided to research the properties of the stones and other materials I use in my handmade jewelry, and to include some of that information in my descriptions. As I say in the listings, any piece of jewelry can be worn simply as a beautiful ornament, but it may also be interesting to know that your necklace is made with black veined jasper, a form of chalcedony associated with healing, reducing stress, and prolonging sexual pleasure.

Vintage Shop Closing Sale
I'll be permanently closing my vintage Etsy shop, NolaLooks, in January in order to concentrate on my other shop, PZBART. I've already begun moving my handmade jewelry over to PZBART, where it will remain available. Everything at NolaLooks is 75% off from now until mid-January or it's all gone, whichever comes first. There are some amazing bargains available on vintage clothes, shoes, bags, jewelry, and accessories. Thanks for all your patronage.

Solstice
So far, I have spent this winter solstice making a selection of essential voodoo oils I hope to add to PZBART in the coming year, including a batch of New Orleans' own Van Van Oil to which I plan to add flecks of pyrite, as suggested by Cat Yronwode of LuckyMojo.com. If the oils turn out well, they should be available in February. We don't do Christmas presents anymore, but today I must brave Metairie traffic anyway to get tiny bottles for herbs, etc. at David Art Supply, since the ones I ordered wholesale won't come for another couple of weeks.

New Doc
So tomorrow I have an appointment with a new urologist. No problems; just need ongoing care and a new testosterone script. I took my mother to this guy last summer when she was making the rounds of Every Damn Doctor in New Orleans, and he had tons of offbeat art on his walls, a glass case full of antique taxidermed birds, and a display of archaic medical instruments. I'm hoping he is enough of a weirdo himself to treat me as a patient rather than a novelty, which was how my last trans-related doctor seemed to see me.

Signed Books on Etsy
I only just learned you can sell non-vintage books on Etsy if you wrote them yourself, so I'll be offering some signed rarities and extra copies there at fixed prices instead of my usual eBay auction format. I currently have PLASTIC JESUS, D*U*C*K, the "Liquor for Christmas" chapbook, and two rogue EXQUISITE CORPSE paperbacks that busted down the corral fence and went hog-wild.

Stephen King & True Horror Epiphany
A thing I wrote on Facebook that people seemed to like, so I'm putting it here to give it extended shelf life:
I was rereading "Gramma," which I think is one of Stephen King's best short stories, and this occurred to me: True horror is not the evil zombie grandmother. True horror is the vast gulf *between* the evil zombie grandmother and the cheerful cartoon grandmother on the telephone notepad. True horror is in the lightyears of distance between the way your heart knows things ought to be, or wants them to be, and the way your eye sees they are.
