WHAT HUMILITY IS NOT

Humility is tricky.

I mean, I'm the most humble guy I know, but it comes with difficulty. I'm sure you can imagine what it's like to look in the mirror and see these pearly whites shining back.

I don't know. Maybe you can't.

It's hard work being humble.

And the Bible is chock full of suggestions and commands concerning the trait.

"What does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?" (Micah 6:8)

"Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty...

JOSH MCDOWELL KISSED ME

Josh McDowell's book, Evidence that Demands a Verdict, was pivotal in my spiritual journey - in 1992 it helped me find answers during an intense time of doubt. And teaching it to others, chapter by chapter, developed into what I do today.

So, a couple months ago when I got an email from him I was excited. He was inviting me to an event in April of this year.

I'll tell more about the event in weeks to come, but for now I want to talk about Josh - mostly because his life is an incredibl...

15 REASONS I LOVE CHURCH

A list of “15 Reasons I Left the Church” is starting to circulate on Facebook.
For comparison, you can see it here: http://rachelheldevans.com/15-reasons-i-left-church
I believe ideas are often either helpful or dangerous and that list needs to be evaluated. While the church is flawed and always will be, it’s got a lot going for it. So here’s my response – 15 Reasons I Love Church.
1. If it wasn’t for churches I most likely wouldn’t know about Jesus – and because of him, my finances, family, pr...

GOD SHOWS UP AGAIN

Location: Goldie's - King of Conchs - Nassau, Bahamas

What I first noticed was the bling.

The guy was wearing not only several rings, a necklace, and earrings, but what I can only describe as a "bracer." It was gold, on his wrist, and several inches wide.

He also had a rat-tail of the dreadlocks sort. It hung down his neck about four inches. I hadn't
seen a rat-tail since high school.

What I noticed next was God's incessant voice.

"Talk to him."

Man, I didn't want to - especially with the harsh mess...

WET MARKS THE SPOT

Our town recently put in a small water park for kids.

There are water tunnels to run through, alternating streams that jet from the ground, and nozzles a child can cover to increase the water pressure of other nozzles nearby.

It's pretty amazing for a city of 12,000 people.

The best feature is the dumping buckets.About 15 feet overhead three large buckets on a pole slowly fill with water. Built on hinges, when the water gets heavy enough ... sploosh ... maybe two gallons gets dumped on one spot....

WHAT TO DO WITH YOUR LIFE

“What should I do with my life?”
It’s a question that haunts me almost every day.
Here I am - 38 going on 40 - and I’m still trying to figure it out.
It’s not for lack of something important to do - I’ve got that in spades. I stay plenty busy on important activities. I’m a husband and father, teacher, author, blogger, conference speaker, and campus minister (yeeesh.)
I think it’s a character flaw - some kind of discontentment - maybe something God needs to heal. But either way, I can look at my l...
