5 Ways Christian Fiction Builds Faith

Every once in awhile you’ll see articles that talk about how terrible Christian fiction is. As an avid reader (I read over 75 books a year) and writer (I’ve seen 20 books + 3 repackages in print in ten years) I avidly disagree. Christian fiction can fill a gaping hole in our world and communicate messages we […]

Fiction Friday: Change of Heart and If I Run

There are so many great Christian fiction novels releasing this spring that my TBR pile is exploding! I consider this an explosion of wonderfulness since a Cara without a new book to read is a pretty unhappy Cara. Anyone else feel that way about good books? I’ve read some really fun ones and want to […]

You’re Already Amazing

You’re already amazing. As women, isn’t that a concept that we really struggle with? I know I do. I’ve spent weeks and months studying to understand who God says I am. To understand my identity in Him and how to use who He created me to help others. Looking for a resource for women? @cara_putman […]

What’s Your Story?

Once upon a time there was a girl who desperately wanted to believe she was special. Unique. Loved. She had a family that loved her, but her heart cried for something deeper. As she grew she wondered if anyone could love the parts of her that were covered with warts. The parts that revealed how far she had to grow.

Fiction Friday: Always Watching & Thin Ice

Today I want to tell you about two really good romantic suspense novels I’ve read this winter. If you love romantic suspense, these are must read novels to add to your pile. Thin Ice by Irene Hannon is an intriguing story that weaves the world of Olympic figure skating with the now of a woman […]

Creating B.O.C. Time

Very few writers only write. Most of us are juggling multiple jobs, both inside and outside of the home. So how do we find time to write? What I'm finding is it changes with the season my family and I are in at that moment. One thing I have learned very well is that without consistent time with my butt on a chair (B.O.C), I will never, ever, ever meet my writing goals and deadlines.

Fiction Friday: Kissed by a Cowboy

It’s Fiction Friday, and today I want to tell you about my friend Debra Clopton’s book Kissed by a Cowboy. I know I had many of you with the word Kiss or the word Cowboy. Add the adorable cover and you’re probably already sold. This is a story of second chances and finding romance when […]

What Fuels Your Writing?

If you’ve been writing for any length of time, you know that it can be a hugely draining endeavor. You will spend hours plugging away at your keyboard praying that what you are writing will sometime be read and appreciated by others. And if you’re realistic, you know there are no guarantees that will happen. […]

Fiction Friday: Keeper of the Stars

Her latest novel, Keeper of the Stars transports the reader to idyllic King's Meadow in Idaho. This time, the story focuses on Penny Cartwright who's life was upended when her brother is killed in a car accident. There is so much left unsaid between them that she transfers her grief and guilt to the man who was the reason her brother was driving. Trevor Reynolds doesn't know why, but he is compelled to keep a promise to his dying drummer Brad Cartwright. He finds himself in King's Meadow, not exactly sure what he should do or why. Rodney Cartwright isn't sure either, but he's willing to be a part of whatever God has in mind.

Finding Your Story in Community

Community is so much more. I have learned so many truths about my story as I have risked community. The Grove was one such risk. Each of these women are among my dearest friends and confidantes, but it took a risk to ask them to join in community with me. Community are the secondary characters, the mentors, the risk takers who help make me more than I am on my own.
