She’s weathered the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, and a personal Category 5 as well: divorce and breast cancer in the same year. Roaring Deals: Week of August 13, 2018

A few days ago, I found some awesome deals on books by authors I LOVE. I added them to last week's post, but worried that many readers would miss them.
Fortunately for everyone, they're still on sale! Emily Bleeker and Kate Moretti are some of the best Women's Fiction writers publishing today. Trust me when I say you'll want their books!~~~~~
Wreckage and Working Fire by Emily BleekerHer next book comes out later this month, so read one these now to see if (rather, THAT) you'd like to read her new one!

Snag her upcoming release, The Waiting Room, here. (I've already ordered my copy. It releases on August 28th.)

Wreckage is one of those rare novels where I could not fathom how the author would end the story in a way that I'd be happy with, yet she managed to do just that. It's also the even rarer book that I couldn't put down. As a career author and editor, I regularly read books in tiny snippets of time and easily put books down. Not this one!

About WreckageLillian Linden is a liar. On the surface, she looks like a brave survivor of a plane crash. But she’s been lying to her family, her friends, and the whole world since rescue helicopters scooped her and her fellow survivor, Dave Hall, off a deserted island in the South Pacific. Missing for almost two years, the castaways are thrust into the spotlight after their rescue, becoming media darlings overnight. But they can’t tell the real story—so they lie.

Wreckage is on sale for $1.99

~~~~
Working Fire
 is Bleeker's third book (her second book, When I'm Gone, is on sale for $4.99, and I love it to pieces).
Working Fire is about the relationship between two sisters and how their past informs the present. One sister is shot during a home invasion . . . and the other is the paramedic called to the scene.
Working Fire is on sale for $1.99
The Vanishing Year, by Kate Moretti Zoe Whittaker is living a charmed life: wife of a handsome Wall Street tycoon, a member of Manhattan’s social elite, a perfect Tribeca penthouse in the city, and more.
What no one knows is that five years ago, Zoe’s life was in danger. Back then, Zoe wasn’t Zoe at all. Now her secrets are coming back to haunt her.
As the past and present collide, Zoe must decide who she can trust before she—whoever she is—vanishes completely.
A “dark, twisty, edge-of-your-seat suspense” (Karen Robards)
This one is also on sale for $1.99
The Marsh King's Daughter, by Karen Dione My favorite read this summer!
This book could be classified as suspense, thriller, family drama, and women's fiction. All of them. Really. Add to that a dose of Finnish culture and a Scandinavian fairy tale (and that's not counting the awards and bestseller status!), and it's a recipe for a book I love.
The Marsh King is on sale for only $1.99
~~~Torch, by Cheryl Strayed Remember the memoir Wild and the movie of the same name starring Reese Witherspoon? (Remember Loralai attempting the same hike along the Pacific Crest Trail?)
This book is by the same author, and it's her first published novel:
"Work hard. Do good. Be incredible!" is the advice Teresa Rae Wood shares with the listeners of her local radio show, Modern Pioneers, and the advice she strives to live by every day. She has fled a bad marriage and rebuilt a life with her two children and their caring stepfather, Bruce. But when they received unexpected news that Teresa, only 38, is dying of cancer, their lives all begin to unravel and drift apart. Strayed's intimate portraits in a time of crisis show the varying truths of grief, forgiveness, and the beautiful terrors of learning how to keep living.
Torch is on sale for $1.99

Summer Sisters, by Judy Blume#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER  From the author many of us grew up reading comes an adult title:
Decades ago, Vix's world changes forever when Caitlin chooses her as a friend. Dazzling, reckless Caitlin welcomed Vix into the heart of her sprawling, eccentric family, opening doors to a world of unimaginable privilege on Martha’s Vineyard, where they become “summer sisters.”Years later, Caitlin is getting married, and the early magic of their long, complicated friendship has faded. Caitlin begs Vix to come to her wedding as her maid of honor. The War of Art, by Steven Pressfield  If you've known me long, you've probably heard me gush about this book. I found it thanks to bestie and accountability partner Luisa, and it promptly changed the way I think about writing. I own the paperback as well as the ebook so that if I need a kick in the pants when I'm not in my office, I can read it on my phone.
This is a great book for anyone struggling with a creative endeavor, which is almost everyone!
It's on sale for only $1.49. That's a screaming deal!

~~~
The Hobbit, by J.R.R. Tolkien If you've ever felt intimidated at the thought of reading Tolkien, then The Hobbit is for you. It's his shortest and simplest story, and it has far fewer mythological tangents and other things that make the The Lord of the Rings trilogy a bit denser.  This book is essentially a prequel to the trilogy.
Note: If you've fallen in love with the three-film adaptation, know that most of it was made up whole cloth by Peter Jackson. The first film of the three is the closest to the source material. It covers about 75% of the novel. Seriously.
This classic is on sale for $2.99.
~~~~1984, by George Orwell Another sale on huge classic. This book is one of the first ever in the dystopian genre. In many respects, it defined the genre.
If you haven't read this one, you really need to, if nothing else than for the sake of cultural literacy. (For example:  many things come from this book that you might not even be aware of, including the concept of the government as "Big Brother.")
It's so well done, and it's both a fascinating and disturbing read. (It also has one of the best first lines ever.)
Snag 1984 for only $2.99.
