A Woman for President
Years ago, when my youngest, now an Austin cat veterinarian, was in kindergarten or first grade, she brought home her Weekly Reader, Eekly Reader to her. It was a presidential election year, and she looked at the pictures of the two candidates and asked, “Where are the ladies?” I’ve told that story for years. Over forty years later, a woman is finally a candidate of a major party. Hooray!

Water, Water, Everywhere
June is National Rivers Month, when all paddlers, fishermen, outdoor enthusiasts and others are encouraged to organize or volunteer with National River Cleanup.
June 8 is World Oceans Day, a global day of ocean celebration and collaboration for a better future.

Zing!
Congratulations to all the spring graduates! I hope that my book ZING! Seven Creativity Practices for Educators & Students can be a good gift especially for educators and librarians. It’s hard to believe that I had the opportunity to write this book, part memoir/part creativity strategies, in an Italian castle in Umbertide.
It’s a challenge for each of us, isn’t it, to steadily develop our inventive selves?

A Visit to Wisconsin
In early May, I visited the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. A desert dweller for much of my life, I was amazed at the rivers in the area including the Mississippi River that streamed right behind my hotel. I enjoyed its beauty throughout the day, especially when it turned gold at sunset.
I also very much enjoyed speaking to elementary school students and to student teachers. A special part of my visit was that the student teachers had created clever activities connected to some of my books...
