Editing Time for Deadly Options
It’s editing time for Deadly Options. See this excellent post by Kris Montee over at The Kill Zone for thoughts about editing. She explains a lot.
I have a love-hate relationship with edits. After all, I turned in a near perfect manuscript, and all my editor should find are a few missed typos, and maybe little picky points of grammar, such as missing or unnecessary commas. Maybe she’ll put a few words in italics for emphasis, but that should be it.
HA!
While yes, she’ll find all of the above—and...

Just For Fun Friday
Just For Fun Friday
It’s been a high-stress week for me. Time to take a step back and look on the light side once again.
Have a good weekend, everyone.

Followup to Finding Sarah’s Trolls
Followup to Finding Sarah’s Trolls
A while back, I posted about how there were some unscrupulous “reviewers” out after Finding Sarah. I mentioned that I was trying to get Amazon to understand what was happening. I’m following up on that today.
Amazon makes it difficult to find the right person to talk to. Their front lines are all “Look for keywords, then send a boilerplate response” people. (This was confirmed by an Amazon executive long ago—it’s too expensive to use their trained people when m...

Capitol or Capital? A Grammar Lesson
Capitol or Capital? A Grammar Lesson

Almost everyone, I’m sure has been watching what’s unfolding on the political front. To be honest, I rarely followed politics until very recently, and needless to say, it’s been upsetting. My policy with this blog has always been to avoid religion or politics, and I’m not going to break that policy now.
However, to put a writer’s twist on things, here are two words that seem to be confusing, based on their misuse on social media...

Fighting the Craziness
Fighting the Craziness
It appears that 2020 is lingering, although I didn’t really expect things to change until after January 20th, and I anticipate a long, rough road to change.
To distract myself, I’ve worked on a short story, which will be a gift to my newsletter subscribers, old and new. It’s about Gordon Hepler’s first day on the job as a rookie cop in Mapleton.
I bought a ridiculously hard jigsaw puzzle I thought the Hubster and I could enjoy working on. Note: When the last puzzle you put...

Some Editing Magic Tricks
It’s my turn at The Kill Zone Blog today, and I’m recapping some tips for getting a manuscript ready to submit. I spent much of December getting Deadly Options ready to turn in to my editor, and wanted to share what works for me. Hope you’ll drop by.

More Than Monsters and Dust Bunnies
More Than Monsters and Dust Bunnies
First — A Very Happy New Year to Everyone. I hope yours was safe. I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s glad to see 2020 in the rearview. And now, we can say “Hindsight is 2020.”
A long time ago, when I was first playing around with writing, I belonged to an online group that had weekly writing prompts. They called them “Open the Envelope” and these imaginary envelopes held writing challenges. Sometimes the prompts were a scene setup, sometimes an opening sente...

Christmas at Our House
Once again, I’m sharing our family’s Christmas tradition. One variation this year. Take out instead of eating at the restaurant.
It’s Christmas Day, and it’s time for my annual “what do we do on Christmas?” post.
Have a wonderful day, everyone!
And PLEASE be sensible. Covid cases skyrocketed after people put themselves above others and gathered/traveled for Thanksgiving. We stay apart this year so we can be together for the next.
