Vacation Report
First, L’Shana Tovah to those who celebrate.
I took a week’s vacation, and after a day, I decided it would be a real vacation, not just one from blog posts. I tried to keep up with email, but very little beyond that. My laptop stayed in my suitcase after the second night, and I hate using my phone for anything other than necessities.
We were on a group tour of Colorado railways with Vacations by Rail. Days started early and by the time we pulled into a hotel for the night, I was...

Away Again
Last week, I flew out to LA to visit with my 96-year-old mother, and this week, the plan is to take a trip designed to travel on many trains throughout Colorado. Some old, some new, but the Hubster is a railroad buff (his father used to build steam engines) and we figured it would be a nice getaway.
I hope to have some decent pictures from that trip, but meanwhile, this blog is taking a vacation, too.
With all the distractions, and needing a little feedback from some experts, work on...

Heading Out For A While.
I’m taking a few days to visit my mom. She’s 96, and I don’t get there often enough.
Up here in the mountains, we’ve been spared much of the summer heat waves. Those 90+ temperatures are NOT my favorites by a long shot. To top it off, my Mom hates to run the air conditioning in her house because it’s too noisy and makes a draft. We’ll see if I can convince her to let it run in the front of the house while she’s in the back, but the guest bedroom will be an oven. Assumin...

It’s Labor Day
Labor Day is a holiday for many, so I decided to take the day off myself.
Meanwhile, here’s some information about the history of Labor Day (I don’t think there’s anything in there about massive retail sales.)
And some fun facts about the holiday.
Whatever you do, please be safe.

It’s supposed to be a simple assignment aboard a luxury yacht, but soon, he’s in over his head.

What Would You Do?
A quick post as we here in the States head into a holiday weekend. As I mentioned in my post on Monday, days, including holidays, have little meaning for me, but the rest of the country is likely to be busy with their own holiday “stuff.”
In working on my next Mapleton book, I was going back through the recent ones to verify what I’d called something. In doing so, I discovered that I’d called a character by a different name. Only once, but it went against my “I want my books t...

A Balancing Act
Starting the 10th book in an ongoing series presents a new set of challenges. How do you balance what you put on the page so new readers aren’t lost, but returning readers aren’t bored? That’s what I’m talking about over at the Kill Zone Blog today. I’d love it if you’d join the discussion.
Also, the replay of my interview at the Speed City Sisters in Crime meeting is available now.

What Day Is It?
August is almost over. Lots of kids are back in school. When I lived in LA, school always started the Monday after admissions day, which was September 9th, so going to school in August seems strange. Our year didn’t end until mid-June, so starting summer vacation in May seems just as strange.
If you’re a writer without a day job or kids at home, one day is pretty much like the rest. When someone asks what I’m doing/did this summer, the answer is “the same things I always do.” Bei...

My Release Week

It’s been a busy week. On Monday, after being put on the wrong UPS truck, a different driver discovered my order on his truck and took the time to deliver it, even though it was already after dark. Kudos to the dedicated drivers! I figured it had been about time to ‘upgrade’ from a plastic storage bin serving as an end table beside my desk to a piece of real furniture. Thanks to the Hubster for putting it together. I was a little worried for a minute because the box said it came...

Happy Book Birthday!
Today’s the day! Cruising Undercover should be showing up at e-stores. Those who preordered the book should find it on their devices.
You can find your favorite e-store here. Prefer print? Get the paperback here.
Hubster and I will have a dual celebration for the book release today and our anniversary tomorrow.
And that’s all I’m going to say.

One More Day!
Tomorrow is the official release day for Cruising Undercover. The Hubster and I will be celebrating our wedding anniversary on Wednesday, and I think it’ll be a dual celebration. And don’t forget my webinar at the Speed City Sisters in Crime meeting on Saturday. It’s free but you have to register. Can’t make it? Register anyway and you can watch the replay.
In anticipation of tomorrow’s release, here’s another excerpt. It’ll give you a closer look at Dante. He’s got a job assignme...
