Homicide - Hussey: The New Year, Part 2

And now, the conclusion of the final chapter from Detective Mark Hussey. From last time: "Mark, it's Elliot again, I called everybody, no one can come. I need you.""Are you shittin' me? I told you, I'm plastered, and I got a house full of guests.""Look, this won't take long, you don't have far to go. Come on down and be careful."Before I could thing of anything to say the phone went dead. Holy

Road Trip - Rocky Mt. Nat'l Park 2

A while back, I mentioned that the marine mammal group hubby's been involved with for decades is covering most of our expenses to their biennial conference as a thank you for our (mostly his) service. We leave for Quebec on Saturday. On top of that, our Realtor decided that would be an opportune time for another Open House, so not only do we have to get organized for the trip, but the house has

Road Trip - Rocky Mt. Nat'l Park

Today I welcome Jason Odell, our firstborn, who started showing an interest in photography from an early age. Although he has a different 'day job', his number one love is wildlife photography. Today he's sharing his recent photo trip to the Rocky Mountains National Park. I had the pleasure of leading a group of photographers on a four-day photography workshop to Rocky Mountain National Park,

Monday Fun

What I'm reading: Monkeewrench, by P.J. Tracy; Dare to Return, by Tracy Cooper-PoseyI've mailed my edits to my editor. We'll see what she thinks. I took a day off from working on my current manuscript to unwind as well as to regroup and pick up with the other plot and characters. I admire anyone who can work on two projects at once. I find I have to immerse myself in a single story, or else my

Homicide - Hussey: The New Year, Part 1

We're rapidly approaching the end of Detective Hussey's case files. Enjoy!New Year's Eve is another big PO-LEECE holiday. Well, I guess they all are. Let's face it. In those days, any excuse to drink was an excuse. I remember the big party at Dewey Pollock's house one year. That was the year Hugh McCrorie told off one of the Majors and everybody got naked and went swimming in Dewey's ice cold

Editing - Phase 3

To continue on with our Editing topic (which began on Tuesday, so if you haven't read the previous posts, scroll down so you read them in order). And, as a reminder, my posts, as opposed to Mona's, refer to the edits you make after an editor has presented you with that marked up copy. Self-editing is critical before you submit, but your job won't end there.Yesterday, I ended with my preference

Editing - Phase 2

What I'm reading: Blood Hunt, by Ian RankinThanks to Mona for sharing her editing techniques. I'm going to add my thoughts, but if you haven't read hers yet, scroll down. I can wait. All right. I've already addressed my story board technique for keeping track of plot points and characters when I write, which is just a different way to accomplish the same goal we all have. Making sure our
