You Can't Get Away from Jane Eyre

Have I mentioned that my very favorite book ever is JANE EYRE? I love it not only because it is a great love story but because it's about a strong woman with strong principles. Jane doesn't give in to the promise of a happily ever after with the man she loves because she respects herself. Her ethics and self-respect are more important to her than anything else. I love and respect Jane. So, when she slapped me in the back of the brain a few days back of course I had to pay attention to her. You see, I'd plotted a Vampire Primes short story that I'm hoping to get written and posted on line for Christmas. This is to be one of what I refer to as a HOW I BIT YOUR MOTHER story, which are historical Primes romances (see STEALING MAGIC). I'd plotted a girl meets vampire in Regency era Cornwall (nothing to do with POLDARK. Really.) when Jane shows up to tell me that there's no substance to this story. I pointed out that I didn't want substance, just a bit of holiday fluff. Well, JANE EYRE isn't going to let a fan of hers get away with this. So, after accepting a stern lecture from a fictional character I have hung my head in shame and started replotting the story. If you don't get it for Christmas, you have Jane Eyre to blame.

In the meantime, CAGED GLASS, the third of the LIVING DEAD GIRL stories (and the completion of the arc which includes BLACK SNOW and BAD WOLF) is now available to be downloaded on Amazon.com.

I can explain everything

Okay, it's been awhile. A while since I posted here, or anywhere. A while since a book of mine has been published. A while since a book of mine has been written, actually. In fact, I finished writing a book today. The first one in...three years? You see, I have been recovering from a stroke and just now have the energy and concentration to write a complete story. By energy I mean a slow crawling stubbornness to get something done. The story I finished is the third of the LIVING DEAD GIRL series, titled CAGED GLASS. If you haven't read these books they are about a ghost hunter and are influenced by my love of Japanese anime and manga. It will be a while before the book is available to read, but it's done. You have no idea how happy I am to have a book done. I will now proceed on to completing a Primes vampire romance that is already in the works.

Also, I have a new book available on Amazon.com, posted in the KDP program. So, if you're interested and you are part of the KDP program you can download SHATTERED JOURNEY for free. Or buy it for not very much. SHATTERED JOURNEY is the first of what will be at least an epic fantasy trilogy. There's a long story behind why I am self-publishing these books. Originally my epic fantasy books were scheduled to be published by Tor Books but so much went wrong and so much time passed that the publisher and my story amicably parted ways. In all this time I fell in love with electronic publishing and have decided to go the indie route with these books.

Going to DragonCon

Once a year, over Labor Day Weekend, me, BetaReader, my sister and about 50,000 other friends pack up our media addictions and head to Atlanta. We gather there, taking over downtown, to celebrate the things we love. Our television addictions, movies, anime, manga...you name it, there's probably a panel track for whatever you like. If you're into steampunk, we have you covered. Dr. Who? Oh, yeah. Anne McCaffrey's Pern? Yep. Paranormal Romance? Check. Lots and lots of fantastic writers attend DragonCon. Star/Trek/Wars/Gate - if it's got a star in it, we've got it. Costuming? Dressing in costume is more the norm than civilian dress. Music? Come listen to Emerald Rose and the other great bands. I'm told that Jefferson Starship will be there this year. And on Saturday morning we have a parade through downtown Atlanta. The sights and sounds and shopping are amazing. I wouldn't miss it for the world. You should join us.

Of course, I also go to DragonCon to work. I'm one of the literary guests. This year I'll be on panels ranging from world building, the soap opera Dark Shadows, and the future of vampire books. I'll be doing a autographing session, and a reading. This year I shall pull out my Kindle and read an excerpt from my new alternate universe fantasy MEMORY OF MORNING. I include that excerpt here (if the link to the mini widget works...I am so not got at tech stuff).
