Completing the Enterprise Bridge
I've been a Star Trek fan for a long time. The original series was in first run when I was born and I started watching regularly when the show was in its first set of reruns in the early 70s. As a kid, I built the AMT model kits of the Enterprise and even the Enterprise's bridge. Soon after Star Trek: The Motion Picture came out, Pocket Books released a punch out paper bridge that was very cool. I had two of them — one I made up as the bridge from the first movie and one I modified to...

A Parable for Texas
On Friday, May 21, the Texas Board of Education voted 9-5 to change the school curriculum to represent a more "balanced" view of history. For those who want to read more about this including some of the specific changes that were approved, there's a pretty good article at the El Paso Times Website.
According to various press reports, these changes mean that many textbook publishers will adapt their books to Texas's curriculum because of the number of textbooks Texas buys. Now, in an age of p...

Space Horrors Sneak Peak
Since the beginning of the year I've been gathering stories for a new anthology entitled Full-Throttle Space Tales #4: Space Horrors to be released by Flying Pen Press. Editing is nearly complete and I plan to send agreements out to authors next week. Artist Laura Givens has turned in the cover and I wanted to give you a quick sneak peak.
The anthology looks at a wide variety of real and imagined dangers we might have to contend with in space. In some cases we might face frightening alien...

Looking forward to seeing the finished book. This one's gonna be good!
Book Giveaway
Back when LBF Books started using its current print vendor, a number of the books that came in arrived in rather poor shape. There were cover scratches and scuffs and the books just didn't look as good as they should. Since then, the print vendor has improved considerably and the books are arriving in good shape. However, I recently uncovered a stack of scuffed up, homely books in my office. Inside, the books are completely readable, but because of the cover marring, I don't feel right...

Full Steam Ahead
One of the projects I have in process is a novel called Owl Dance. Essentially the novel is a Wild West Steampunk adventure. I'm approximately one-third of the way through and having a great time writing this story. Now, people who know me primarily through Tales of the Talisman Magazine, or my science fiction novels such as The Pirates of Sufiro or The Solar Sea may wonder what I'm doing writing a Wild West Steampunk adventure. Well, the fact of the matter is that I've been working in...

In All Their Glory
My story "Amazons and Predators" was recently accepted for publication in the anthology Bad-Ass Faeries 3: In All Their Glory published by Mundania Press. My story asks the questions: What if the Amazons were a fae race, living in the mountains of Afghansistan? What if a missile from an unmanned Predator drone accidentally struck their home? You'll be able to find the answers when the anthology comes out on May 30, 2010. I expect to have copies available at conventions later this year.
The ...
