Tea & Company

At our monthly Supernatural Tea Party we talked about magical, mythic, mystical places. Was Atlantis a real city? And if so, where was it and what destroyed it? Could some magic lands from literature actually be based in truth? Are some "places" not wholly tangible or intangible? Is there something in between?

One idea that I don't believe but that intrigues me is the Hollow Earth theory. Was Shangri La a warm and green paradise at the top of the world because it existed on the inside of the p...

New Mommy Brain

(Notice the Min Pin nose in center bottom -- Max tries to get into most photos with his boy.)

I LOVE being a mother and I ADORE my son. I do have to get used to certain things, though. I used to be Miss "Johnny on the Spot" — I arrived early to rehearsals and appointments, I kept up with sending family and friends gifts and cards at birthdays, I had my rooms organized, I answered fan emails the same day I got them, and I could write a list of thirty things to do each day and get twenty of...

May Give-Away

Congrats to Nafisa of Walsall, England, the winner of the April drawing. In May I will give away another audio book of SLANT. In addition, if you speak/read Spanish, Korean, or Polish, and would like a copy of SLANT in one of those languages, email me a little about yourself (was S/K/P your first language, are you just learning, do you teach the subject) and I'll also draw a winner for each language at the end of the month.

And now, because I can't resist, here is another picture of my son.

Huzzah to the Ronald McDonald House!

My son, Robinson, was born five weeks early and had to stay in the neonatal ICU at Advocates Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn, Illinois until he was ten days old. The Ronald McDonald House, only three blocks away, welcomed us in and we stayed with them for over a month until the last adoption document arrived. I can't say enough wonderful things about the RMH organization and especially the staff and clients at the Oak Lawn House — they came to feel like a second family to us.

The building was l...

Don't forget to enter . . .

It's not too late to enter the Kay Snow Writing Contest! Here is the description of the competition as seen on the Willamette Writers website. For the entry form and rules, see www.willamettewriters.com. And, as I've said before, winning this award helped me break in as a novelist. Good luck!

p.s. If you are a teenager, do not tell me about what you are sending in because I am often the judge of the 9th through 12th grade entries.

Tea and Time Travel

Time Travel and Parallel Universes was the theme of my most recent Supernatural Tea Party (see blog entry from January 6th.) Our new guests included Goody and Jessie's fabulous friend, Roxanne, and my son, Robinson.

Roxanne & Robinson

Binny seemed thrilled by it all and on the verge of speech. We had sparkling peach juice, tea sandwiches, and cake. We discussed the concepts of twin parallel and multiple (infinite?) universes. We talked about time travel lore and the idea that some ghostly...

March Give-Away!

I'm finally home with my baby son. Sure good to be back! Thank you for your prayers, congratulations, encouragement, and good vibes.

Binny finds his thumb!

Sorry that I'm a little behind, but the winner of the February Give-Away is Lynsey of South Hampton, England. So many people have been interested in the signed copy of SLANT that I'm repeating it this month.

(Thought you'd like to see what SLANT will look like on a book store shelf in Poland this month.)

The March Give-Away is a signed copy...

Baby news!

My son, Robinson David Whitcomb, was born on Friday, January 29, 2010, at 5:03 am in Chicago, Illinois. He was 16 ½  inches long and weighed 5 pounds and 3 ounces.

Binny, 5 days old

I have been on the adoption path for five years, but now my dream has come true! My sister, Cynthia, came with me to Chicago to welcome him into his new family. I can't wait to introduce him to the rest of our gang, his dog Maximus, his nursery, Oregon, well . . . everything! His favorite song so far is Walkin' My...
