My Career Team

Writing a novel is a lot of work, but I'm not the only one who works on my career. So much happens behind the scenes and it is equally hard work for which I cannot take credit; I thought you might like to know who is in my corner.

Ann with her dog, Benben

My literary agent is Ann Rittenberg. She is fabulous at her job. She pitches my ideas to editors, our Hollywood agent at CAA, and foreign scouts. She sells my books to their publishers and negotiates the deals, vets the contracts, sends me my...

Black Tea & the Green Man

At our last Supernatural Tea we talked about Forest Lore – the Green Man, Pan, the powerful use of woods in myth and fairytale, the idea of plants having feelings and thoughts, Robyn Hode (Robin Hood), enchanted sod, and other fascinating tidbits of supernatural  nature.

We dined on woodsy treats — stuffed mushrooms, nuts, berries (black and blue) – and traditional tasties such as tea sandwiches, chocolates, English style chocolate biscuits, and Earl Grey tea. I iced and decorated shortbread c...

Where I work . . .

I've heard that sometimes readers like to see (or hear about) authors' work spaces. This is mine. My son and dog and I share a house with my sister and her daughter and their two dogs. My baby's nursery and my bedroom are on the second floor, but my Writing Den is downstairs.

I chose a shallow card table as my writing desk because if you gave me a bigger surface on which to work I'd cover it with stuff. Small means I have to keep most things put away. I just need room for my laptop, my...

Are We Alone?

Our most recent Supernatural Tea Party's theme covered questions like: If there is life on other planets, what might that be like?

Are we accompanied by spirit guides unseen? Do invisible animal totems protect us?

Are there worlds surrounding us that we cannot see or touch but that we sometimes sense? Are the spirits of our loved ones closer than we think?

And the conversation (as always) took interesting turns: What happens when we die? What is it like on the other side? Do babies and small...

Robinson's Nursery

While I waited for my son to arrive  (many more than nine months, since he was adopted) I had plenty of time to create his room. Since I loved fairies and elves as a child, I knew I wanted to make his nest into something magical. Not a frilly, cartoon Tinkerbell bedroom, but a quasi-Victorian fairy forest den.

I found a vintage-looking soft, stretchy brown material to cover the worn and modern chair I use for rocking Binny. We love to sing and read books snuggled there.

My niece, who had just ...

Tea and Mermaids . . .

At the June Supernatural Tea Party we ate fresh raspberries, scones with double Devon cream, and tiny Havarti grilled sandwiches. We talked about mermaids — there were plenty of sightings recorded before 1949 and then quite a drop off. Could mermaids have been real and simply went the way of the Dodo Bird?

We also talked about vampires and zombies and the possibility that giants once roamed the earth. (See bones below.) We exchanged selkie stories and Don Stewart Burns brought a "life size"...

SLANT goes Kindle

A CERTAIN SLANT OF LIGHT is now available on Kindle.

I don't have a Kindle myself (it's too sad to think of giving up the feel of a real book in my hands) but maybe someday. My sis thinks it would be great for traveling and research materials. True! To purchase SLANT on Kindle follow the links here to SLANT and then Amazon.

June Give-Away!

The winner of the May Give-Away (an audio of SLANT) was Carol of Vancouver, Washington. And the winner of the Spanish copy of SLANT was Zuleyma of Monroe, North Carolina. ( I am still looking for interested parties regarding the Korean and Polish copies of SLANT.)

The June Give-Away is a signed copy of the new paperback edition of THE FETCH. It doesn't come out until the fall, so the winner will have to be patient as I won't be able to mail it out until I get my copies later this summer. Send ...
