Flashforward Friday: Neurology

For this week’s Flashforward Friday: Neurology and the new strides science has made.

Scientists have built artificial neurons that fully mimic human brain cells.

Let that sink in for a moment.

Flashforward Friday: Neurology and Neurons

As someone who has neurological issues, I wanted to cry when I read the article. The idea that we could replace damaged nerve cells and help folks with spinal cord injuries, Parkinson’s, and a possibly even fibromyalgia, gives me hope.

One of the best and worst parts of readin...

Book Cover Throwback: Mathemagics

This week’s Book Cover Throwback: Mathemagics by Margaret Ball.

Book Cover Throwback: Mathemagics by Margaret Ball

What I Love about This Cover: “A Chicks in Chainmail Novel”–when I was in middle & high school, stuff like this was right up my alley. Cheesy + cheesy covers = Awesome. Throw in the math humor, and I was sold.

What I Don’t Love about This Cover: Her chainmail bra or whatever that is, makes her chest look deformed. Her proportions are weird. But then, it’s cheesy SF/F so….

Locus Weekend Wrap-Up

This past weekend was the Locus Awards and the Locus Writers’ Workshop, hosted by sci-fi Grand Master Connie Willis and author Daryl Gregory. It was my second year attending, which included dragging my husband along (he complains until he’s there, and then he laughs himself silly, heckles Connie Willis, and enjoys himself).

The award’s ceremony was hysterical as always, with Connie serving as the MC. Nancy Kress, her official heckler, was absent this year but the audience did its best to fill...

Class-M Exile Bestseller!

Amidst a sea of con crud and chaos, Class-M Exile launched. I didn’t see what it’s best ranking was (I was too busy fighting a nasty fever), but it remained in the Top 100 Bestsellers in Space Opera on Amazon in both the U.S. and the U.K for a good, solid week!

Class-M Exile by Raven Oak That’s reason to celebrate!!

Since the book began at the Locus Writing Workshop with Connie Willis, I gave a copy to her this past weekend. Not only was she excited and proud, but she made sure I autographed it.

Here’s some of the newest...

Monday Night Gaming: Fallout Shelter

This week’s Monday Night Gaming: Fallout Shelter, the mobile game.

Fallout Shelter Developer: Bethesda Game Studios

# of Players: Single Player

System: Mobile Devices

Genre: Simulation / Resource Management

Cost: Free-to-Play, with the usual pay add-ons

If there is anything I love in this world, it is the Fallout video game series. Something about the 1950’s thoughts on a post-apocalyptic world just rocks my socks off. Fallout 3 is in my top 5 favorite games of all time, so I was really excited by the announcement...

The Making of Eerl

In it, I talk about how Eerl (from Class-M Exile) came to be and why writers should speak their minds and ask difficult questions more often. Be sure to check it out at:
