Archeology and the Banana

Human beings are pretty gullible. We tend to believe what we are told, especially if we hear it again and again. Take for instance the shape of the first banana. Was it similar to the shape of a modern banana, or was it more like the shape of a potato, as seen in this picture of a modern wild banana?

Archeological evidence suggests that the banana goes back as far as 8,000 years. So what was its shape? Was it short and fat, like a potato, or was it more like the shape of the modern banana?

Th...

The Skeptic's Game

"According to the Christian Model, Hitler, as far as anyone knows, could very well be in Heaven right now, enjoying the fruits of his last minute redemption."

There's a game that's often played by skeptics. They create hypothetical scenarios so that they can (in their own minds) justify rejection of the gospel.

A drug addict is dying because of a disease that is related to his addiction. But when a faithful doctor takes the time to point out the evident symptoms that are all over the addict's ...

The Old Testament and Hell

"Nowhere in the Old Testament is there any hint of eternal punishment after death. There are occasional hints of an afterlife for the righteous, but none of an afterlife, in Hell or elsewhere, for the wicked. The New Testament, of course, has many mentions of post-death punishment, another change in the account of how God treats His creatures." Steven J.

Skeptics have argued that any Old Testament reference to the word "hell" simply refers to the grave, or to a burning trash heap outside of J...

God and Genocide

The God of the Old Testament ordered genocide. He was, as Richard Dawkins so rightly stated "a vindictive, bloodthirsty ethnic cleanser; a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevolent bully."

As justification for God's merciless judgment against the Canaanites, we are told by Bible scholars that they were a morally corrupt people. The religion of the Canaanites was a fertility cult. They turned thei...

The Brilliant Charles Darwin

When we give away 170,000 copies of Origin of Species to university students in November, I want every one of the 170,000 students to make sure they don't stop at the Introduction. I want them to thoroughly read Origin of Species.

When I read the book I was impressed with the brilliance of Charles Darwin. If he was alive today I am sure that he would quickly rise to the top of Disney's imagineers, or earn big bucks as a Hollywood screenwriter for science fiction movies.

Among other things, Da...

It's hard to keep up with all the false accusations, but here's one:

I said that around 200,000 people die each year in the U.S. because of medicial mistakes. Dimensio wrote: "Given that Mr. Comfort has lied regarding the mortality rate caused by medical professional error -- as the actual statistic is 80,000 fewer deaths than Mr. Comfort claims -- why would you expect Mr. Comfort to provide an honest statement of the data that you have requested?"

"In Hospital Deaths from Medical Errors at 195,000 per Year USA." Source: http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles...

Back to Doctor Luke

46And Mary said: "My soul magnifies the Lord, 47 And my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior. 48 For He has regarded the lowly state of His maidservant; For behold, henceforth all generations will call me blessed. 49 For He who is mighty has done great things for me, And holy is His name. 50 And His mercy is on those who fear Him from generation to generation."

I have to smile when someone says that they don't believe in the soul. They somehow think that the "soul" is a religious phrase. Yet y...

Hot Evolution News!

"Reports of the assembly of the 'Ardi' fossil specimen are still relatively new. It is likely that neither Mr. Comfort nor any other creationist has yet been able to dedicate time required to adequately fully dishonestly misrepresent the findings, or even to dishonestly mine quotes from articles relating to the findings. However, given the skill at which creationists distort, and even outright fabricate, claims, I would anticipate a response either from Mr. Comfort or from one of his close as...
