A Christmas Short Story Santa’s Gift
A Christmas Short Story | Santa’s Gift

I watch my children launch themselves gleefully at the pile of presents under the tree, but take no pleasure in their joy. My heart feels cold and hard as a stone, and the bitter taste of guilt catches and won’t wash away in the back of my throat.
Sarah is the oldest. Always the thoughtful one, she organises her younger sister to sort the parcels into three piles, one for each of them. It’s meagre pickings, I think dismally, but they don’t seem to notice. Caitlin normally resents Sarah’s bossiness, but on this occasion normal hostilities have been temporarily cast aside. Jojo, not even a year old, crawls happily through the chaos, more absorbed in the crunch and rustle of the bright paper than what it conceals.
My brave bold trio, who already in their short lives have seen a side of…

A leisurely Christmas
“Are you all ready for Christmas?” The middle-aged shop assistant in pixie ears and elf costume smiles brightly as she puts the dog’s dinner into my bag.
“I haven’t started.” Disbelief and pity vie for supremacy on her face as she takes the money. She cannot understand how anyone can leave all that shopping till Christmas Eve. She’d probably understand even less if she realised I wasn’t planning on doing any. Granted, my statement does not reflect quite the whole truth. I’ve already had Christmas. There was no turkey, it wouldn’t have mattered had there been no tree and the best present was being present.
I’m not going all “bah, humbug!” and ignoring the festivities… which would be a little difficult when half the houses in town are sporting an array of flashing lights that must be visible from space. No, I’ve put the tree up and bought a few…

Help to Raise £250 For The Dogs Trust
This blog post caught my eye this week, and I thought it was a wonderful thing to do, especially at this time of year.
“Hugh’s Photo Challenge: Week 8 – Charity Christmas Tree Topper Challenge. Help Me Raise £250 For The Dogs Trust
By Hugh’s Views and News on December 13, 2015…”
Here are two lovely toppers, just so you get the idea…

Hugh’s Photo Challenge: Week 8 – Charity Christmas Tree Topper Challenge. Help Me Raise £250 For The Dogs Trust
By Hugh’s Views and News on December 13, 2015
Welcome to this year’s Charity Christmas Tree Topper Photography Challenge.
Last year you helped me raise £250 for The Alzheimer’s Society by participating in my Christmas Tree Topper Photo challenge. This year I’ve decided to run the same challenge again and to donate the money to The Dogs Trust.
Here’s how you can all join in and help Angela, Macy, Toby and I raise £250 for The Dogs Trust.
1. Take a photo of what sits on top of your Christmas tree.
2. Create a new post on your blog entitled “Hugh’s Photo Challenge: Week 8 – Charity Christmas Tree Topper Challenge.”
3. Add the photo(s) you have taken to the post and tell us a little about what you are showing.
4. Create a pingback to this post or leave a link to your post in the comments section below so that other participants can view your post.
I will donate £1 to The Dogs Trust for every Christmas Tree Topper photo that is posted here on Planet Blog up to a maximum of £250.
The challenge is open until Tuesday 5th January 2016 and I will publish a post on Twelfth Night, January 6th, showcasing everybody who participated in the challenge and letting you all know how much we all managed to raise.
Whilst I will be making the donation, please do not hesitate in making your own donation to The Dogs Trust and let me know about it by leaving details in the comments section. There’s absolutely no pressure in making a donation but please do consider joining in the fun and showing us all what sits on top of your Christmas tree. Please click on the link below to make any donations directly to The Dogs Trust.

Come on over!
what a lovely idea!
Merry Christmas Sue (and Ani)
Over the past couple of weeks I have re-published some of the guest posts from this year. Some promote books… some are simply guests… WordPress isn’t just a place to send words and pictures winging a lonely way out into the ether, it is above all a community and the support shown by bloggers to bloggers is a large part of what makes it, in my mind, the best place to be.
But it is not just the WordPress community that gets involved… bloggers from other platforms are familiar names and friendly faces in the notifications, as well as on Twitter and Google+ etc.
Like many in our little corner of the Blogosphere, I too have benefitted from that support, both as a writer, having met with nothing but kindness and a generosity to share and promote each other’s work and at a personal level.
So… Artists, Writers, Photographers… lend…
