Gone to ground
I must apologize to being absent. Why? I am currently on a small island in the Yasawa Group of Fiji. It is the perfect place for writing, and that is what I am doing. Of course I am also finding some time to read “Out with the Tide,” a book I hope to finish soon and will review. It is a really lovely story and nice to step away from the complex characters in my next novel.
The Quilt, Unravelled is available on kindle and in the paperback form. If you haven’t as yet got your copy here is the link. Enjoy a slice of New Zealand through the journey of Joanne Kyle and Paul Clarke. http://goo.gl/yrnj5L
I was asked recently if The Quilt, Unravelled was emotional to write. Of course given the content and outcome for one of the characters I did become swept away by their circumstances. But it was also a wonderful experience to travel the road of The Clarke Family, and to deliver a small message about a subject that is close to my heart. Life hasn’t always got a predictable outcome. But love can sometimes make it easier to heal.
Have a great week and here are some photographs of the magnificent South Pacific for you to enjoy.

The Quilt is a wide-ranging and moving story of one family, their love, their losses and, most significantly, their resilience. It is a highly emotional read and Ms. Carlton does a masterful job of bringing the two main characters – Paul and Joanne – together throughout the story.
Secondary characters consistently threatened to steal the story as they are written with such believability it must be that the author knows people like this in real life. The depth of the characters, the intertwined relationships, and the stunning New Zealand landscapes described throughout make this a wonderful choice for anyone looking to connect with a new and fresh group of characters.

New Description

Lawyer, Joanne Kyle, imagines a life full of happiness and fulfilment. She is engaged to a handsome artist, lives above a windswept beach, and has a growing list of clients. But in a heartbeat everything changes.
It starts with her naked fiancé disappearing in the rear-view mirror, and ends with news so devastating she collapses, on the filthy floor of an airport toilet. It is the day that ruins her career, and sets Joanne on an emotional journey that will change her forever.
Paul Clarke looks like a man that has stepped out of the pages of a women's magazine. He lives on Twin Pines Station, a New Zealand high country farm that is shrouded in mystery following the unsolved disappearance of his Grandmother.
The small town community expect Paul will marry his volatile, pregnant girlfriend and become the fourth generation of his family to settle in the area.
But not everything is as it appears, and life for Paul is about to be turned upside down.
No one could predict the tragedy that will destroy Joanne’s only real friendship, make her question everything she once believed and bring Paul Clarke in to her life.
What unfolds is an unforgettable story of friendship and loss, unexpected romance, family secrets and change born through love.
"This should become a TV series or a movie. It is that good in my opinion." - Mr Butler
"Moving, rousing and beautifully written." - Jackie Parry
“A story that is both personal and intimate.. This multi-generation family saga is immense in scope (and intense).” – Mark Fine
“This is not sugar coated romance, but a dramatic and moving tale of the lives and complex relationships of generations of the individuals depicted” – Lola Arnold
"Being away from New Zealand it was such an indulgence to be given such wonderful imagery." - Meilyrox

Thank you for the review!
Latest 5 star review. Thank you!
I find it difficult to review an author’s debut novel, to read and review from a totally objective viewpoint, but sharing my thoughts on The Quilt: Unravelled comes easy and might be summed up in my simple words: a delight. Rochelle Carlton’s vivid descriptions provide the reader with crystal clear images of life in the beautiful country of New Zealand and her characters that play out the saga of the Clarke family. This is not sugar coated romance, but a dramatic and moving tale of the lives and complex relationships of generations of the individuals depicted. The further I read, the more captivated I became and found myself glued to the sofa, even on a lovely sunny day, reading until I satisfied my hunger to reach the resolution of this novel. I have truly enjoyed my first read of an authentic novel written by a Kiwi and set in New Zealand. Carlton has done a superb job with this first novel, and I have no doubt that her future work will be equal in excellence.

Lifestyle or life sentence!
And so began the story of our transition from town life to rural bliss.
This was the last, and one of the most serious asthma attacks our son had had. Our tools were never recovered. However the low life that had “removed” them was found and appeared in court. And we discovered that however tragic the circumstances, there is often a moment of light relief.
We sat in the vets. Our fur friend had left us the day of settlement. His earthly remains had been stored at the clinic while we made the transition to the new property. My son and I waited patently for him to be returned, and as is common with the elderly, a lovely, somewhat wrinkled pet owner made an effort to communicate.
“What sort of pet do you have? A cat or a dog?” She smiled sweetly at my three year old.
“A cat. He is in the freezer.”
The first thing we noticed was the darkness. No street lights, no traffic and the sounds of birds and sheep had replaced that of lawnmowers and weed eaters. Bird life is abundant here. Everything from native fantails and Tui’s to Geese and ducks.
Read more about New Zealand in the pages of The Quilt, Unravelled. A romance, a saga, a journey from the high country to the beaches of Waiheke Island. http://goo.gl/yrnj5L. The story of our personal journey will continue soon.

Charlie Robot. By Benedict Martin
Another book for you to consider. A great read and well written. Even if it is out of your normal it may be worth considering.
I was not sure what to expect when I started Charlie Robot by author Benedict Martin. It was not my normal genre but I have just finished it and am so happy I took the plunge and explored a great read that was out of my “norm”.
This is a fantastic story, well written and crafted with professionalism along with a huge helping of imagination.
The story is easy to read, it flows and most of all it keeps you guessing until the end. Charlie Robot is not predictable and there are twists and turns, characters to like and hate and the author’s style makes it easy to relate emotionally to each and every person (human or otherwise!)
I would highly recommend this book. It would be an easy read for a wide cross section of people, is entertaining and even a little thought provoking.
Perhaps in the future this story will no longer be considered fiction?
The Quilt, Unravelled is offered at a reduced price on kindle. If you are wanting to download and have a full length read this weekend click on the link.

The latest review has made my day! Thank you Trish Carroll.
The Title of Rochelle’s Book stood for me because I am a seamstress, generally I go for specific Authors. The Book was not difficult to get into, the opposite in fact, I could not put it down. Every facet of the Story was fascinating. Rochelle stitched together all the characters past and present seamlessly. For me to feel as if I was actually there is rare. Her wording created within me many emotions and for that I Salute Her. I have the utmost confidence in recommending ‘The Quilt:Unravelled’ t The Title of Rochelle’s Book stood for me because I am a seamstress, generally I go for specific Authors.
