Review. Just This Once.
Review of Just this Once, Rosalind James
I was curious to read a fiction by this popular New Zealand author. I personally need good bones in a story and Rosalind James did not disappoint.
I find many “Romances” lack in plot, however this book had wonderful descriptions, believable characters and the story, while having a predictable ending, was complex enough to keep me interested.
This is a well written, enjoyable romance. It will leave the reader a little more knowledgeable about New Zealand, life down under and lead them to care about the characters, their insecurities and their journey.
I would highly recommend this series to anyone that enjoys romance with a decent life story behind it.

New Review (its cold down under!)
My blog has been neglected but soon there will be news to add about the next book. Yes I, together with my geriatric cat Mouse, have been busy writing.

The Quilt is a beautifully written book chronicling the lives of Paul Clarke and Joanne Kyle. It was quite something watching as these two very different people, from two very different backgrounds, were slowly brought together. It made me reflect on my own life. Quite often you get lost in the now, losing sight of the steps that brought you there, and for a book to do that is special indeed.
I loved the characters. Everyone is presented so clearly, with unique personalities and voices; I really felt as though I knew them.
And no review of the Quilt would be complete without mentioning the setting. I’ve always wanted to visit New Zealand, and reading this book has only strengthened that desire. Rochelle Carlton does a wonderful describing the landscape. Reading about the Clarke’s vineyard made me want to hop on a plane and see it for myself.
This is a special book. Do you yourself a favor and read it. You won’t be disappointed.

“Planet Purgatory” – by Benedict Martin.
I have read and reviewed Benedict Martin’s previous book “Charlie Robot.” Although this is not my normal genre I very much enjoyed his writing, and was eager to download the latest story “Planet Purgatory.”
I was not disappointed. “Planet Purgatory” opens up an imaginary world that transports you from reality in the very best way. Benedict Martin has a style of writing that allows you to visualise the places, people and creatures. He also shows his diverse talent by including detailed pictures of the characters throughout the book.
The main character David has human flaws, secrets and weaknesses. He travels in search of help to save Harkness, its occupants and his family. The journey keeps the reader turning the pages, while he introduces a variety of otherworldly creatures often with humour and sometimes even a little sadness.
Benedict Martin has a unique writing style. His imagination, his quality presentation, and his ability to transport the reader to another world make his work definitely worth a look. I would highly recommend this well-paced story to any reader wanting to escape to another world.
I look forward to reading his next book.

“Review started the day off well.”
I hope your weekend is going well. I have been a little neglectful recently updating my blog. Why? My new novel is in the pipeline. In fact I am working furiously on the first draft and hoping to be able to update soon. It is a romantic suspense. Set in New Zealand although the main character travels to one of my favourite cites, Los Angeles.
It is always lovely to see a reader taking the time to write about your work. This morning my day started with this Goodreads review by reader Lizzy. Very constructive and well thought out comments.
This was a great book. A family saga which was very well written, with engaging complex characters.
I loved the setting of this book in New Zealand, as a Kiwi knowing with some of the places made it easy to connect with this book.
This book is a family saga about two family, initially it is a story of the two main characters as individuals and then combines as the characters meet and the story unfolds.
The characters are well described, with a sympathetic angle. Even the characters who have unflattering character flaws are still described sympathetically.
The story is well paced, the character well developed and described so that you feel as if you know them.
The family saga is set in the modern time frame and it is good to read a family saga which is not historically based.
This book is a really good read,which I highly enjoyed. The storyline, the characters and the ending were all satisfying.

“This Nearly Was Mine.” Review.
Review “This Nearly Was Mine,” by Nancy Farkas
“This Nearly Was Mine,” is a work of fiction but reads a little like a memoire. The author’s writing is deeply personal, honest and emotive. I am sure most readers will relate, through their own life experiences, to some part of this story.
The journey takes the reader from the main characters first love, to marriage, children and from disappointment to celebration. Because of the authors style of writing the reader is given a window in to life that feels real, and will involve and sweep them along with the story.
From the tragedy of family, to the passion found and lost, to the disappointments and love of children, to the comfortable acceptance of long term partners and soulmates. “This Nearly Was Mine,” is a well written and well-paced novel.
I would recommend this story to romance readers, readers of memoires despite it being a work of fiction, and suggest it is probably more suitable for women readers.

“Take the journey.”
I was excited to receive a review copy of Jackie Parry’s new story “A Standard Journey.” I read and thoroughly enjoyed her previous book “Of Foreign Build,” and this highly anticipated adventure is the next offering from this remarkable writer.
A Standard Journey is set in Australia and takes the reader, by horseback, through The Bicentennial National (BNT) recreational trail. As with her previous book Jackie’s plans were never going to be straight forward.
Accompanied by her husband, Noel, she began the journey burdened down with gear, food and a dream to see this part of her adopted country by horseback.
Along the way they met unique individuals, forged friendships, gained knowledge and suffered bruises. Through her writing Jackie Parry opens up a window to the emotional and stressful life of the adventure that lay ahead of them.
Jackie Parry’s writing is, as always, professional and honest. Her free spirit and willingness to share moments of self-doubt, frayed nerves and strained relationships create a very special story that will be enjoyed by readers of many genres.

The Quilt is a wide-ranging and moving story of one family, their love, their losses and, most significantly, their resilience. It is a highly emotional read and Ms. Carlton does a masterful job of bringing the two main characters – Paul and Joanne – together throughout the story. Secondary characters consistently threatened to steal the story as they are written with such believability it must be that the author knows people like this in real life. The depth of the characters, the intertwined relationships, and the stunning New Zealand landscapes described throughout make this a wonderful choice for anyone looking to connect with a new and fresh group of characters.
