Victor Davis "The Gingerbread Collection" a Must Read
If Goodreads author, Victor A Davis( Grains of Sand and The Gingerbread Collection) were a painter, he would most likely be Norman Rockwell. Victor has afforded me the privilege of previewing his latest work "The Gingerbread Collection" prior its intended release later this spring.
Time has allowed me to read only the first story so far but I am already captured. Visualize the painting. The author quietly observes a real-life mini-drama unfolding near him and around him as he dines in a small café. The waitresses, the setting, and the other customers virtually come alive before the reader's eyes in this perceptive and touching short story entitled "Change". I know that the rest of the stories will be equally engaging. "The Gingerbread Collection" is truly a "must read!"

Grains of Sand - Victor A. Davis
I will admit that I have not been an avid reader of fantasy literature but Goodreads author Victor A. Davis is making me a fan. I have just finished reading his collection "Grains of Sand".
In this collection of short stories, Davis takes us on several dark but highly engaging journeys. There an Escher-like tale involving constantly shifting tunnels, hallways, and staircases where the line between reality and imagination is totally blurred. Another story takes us to a dark ship on a black lake where stern schoolmasters enforce harsh discipline with even harsher punishments for offenders.
Look for my review soon on Goodreads and Amazon. I highly recommend the book and have rated it 4 1/2 stars. Had I read more fantasy with which to compare it, I would probably have given it a 5.

Tractor Bones & Rusted Trucks
Here is piece from my next poetry/essay book "Tractor Bones and Rusted Trucks" which I hope to release winter of 2016-17
"A Marker in the Lane"
His name was never etched in stone
Above the doorway
Of a library or a civic building or a school.
It didn’t appear at the gateway to a park
Or on a street sign.
He left no mark
On the fields he’d farmed –
Crops planted, tended, harvested
Consumed or sold
The stubble plowed under or disked
Disappeared into next year’s work.
I walk the lane from the road
To where a house and barn once stood.
On a half-way post
A roll of rusted barb
That he’d saved to one day patch the fence
Tells me that he was here.

A debut novel
Goodreads author, Victor A. Davis, has done me the honor of beta-reading the initial draft of my debut novel of the American Civil War "Henry's Pride" and shared some of his reactions on his blog.
I'm just starting the editing and re-writing process so there is no release date established but I will periodically post updates on my blog as work progresses.
Thank you, Victor

Sideshow at Honey Creek
If you like westerns, action-adventure, and historical fiction, you must read Steven Malone's (Goodreads Author) Sideshow at Honey Creek. This work contains all of that in a well-written volume that keeps you pushing the forward button on your kindle even as you know there are chores you should be doing. Look for my full review soon on Steven's page and on Amazon. Buy it. Read it. It's that good! I rated it five stars.

A Promise Kept
My Mom's dad loved to read - classics, westerns, mysteries, poetry. He was the age that I am now when I was born and he passed away when I was 15 years old. I remember promising him that I would write a book someday.
Fifty-one years later, last fall, I published "The Horse Lawyer and Other Poems" which, ironically, is more about farm life on the other side of my family. I now have two more books in the works. It took a little longer than I planned, Grandpa, but I hope you would feel it was worth the wait.

Late Blooming Authors
I am 67 years old. I was 66 last fall when I published my first book. You might say I came a bit late to the dance though I now have a novel and another book of poems and essays each nearly finished. I would be interested in the shared experiences of others who also came late to this wonderful party. Though my dad lived to be 88 years old and my healthy mother is nearly 93, I sometimes find myself wondering if I will get to write everything I have to say. But than again, maybe no one does. Thoughts?
